Edwin Sykes grew up surrounded by opera and music since both of his parents are opera singers. Throughout his life Edwin has developed a love of a wide range of music from classical composers such as Debussy, Ravel and Stravinsky to heavy metal bands such as System Of A Down and Rage Against The Machine, film composers such as James Horner, Thomes Newman and Don Davis and world music such as the japanese taiko drum group Kodo.
Inspired by a wide range of music, at the age of 15 Edwin began to pursue a passion for composition. Since then he has written a huge variety of music for film, concert and dance which has been performed by members of the London Symphony Orchestra, Spiral Saxophone Quartet, The Ebony Quartet, The Paddington Brass Quintet and students and members of the faculty of the Trinity College of Music and San Francisco Conservatory of Music.
His music has been performed throughout the world including at the Barbican Concert Hall, the Queen Elizabeth Hall, the National Portrait Gallery and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Six films with music composed by Edwin Sykes have been screened at the National Film Theatre in London.
