effect69 is the latest project from the "Martinez Brothers" Born and raised in Denver CO. They both moved to California in 2000 to create some new traxx, and give a new experience in live performance. Growing up in a family of musicians, music has been a integral part of their lives. In 1978 their father took the boys to see the rock group KISS and from that moment on... it changed things forever.
Chris "Dirty Martini" Martinez has been playing music since the age of 9 playing saxophone in jazz band all through grade school and then switching to guitar... at the age of 13 with childhood friend Daryl Stubbs of (Drop Culture) he started 80's new-wave band "The Rain". After seeing the Roland Juno 106 for the first time, he knew that was it. Then 3 years later in 1986, started Goth band "Dance on Fire" in 1988 after seeing Skinny Puppy he reached the conclusion, that the drum machines/samplers they were using were the way of the future. At the age of 18 he was engineering and recording his younger brothers band (Psychodelic Zombies) demo, Songs From the Short Bus. In 1996 he joined friend Brian Hagman of (Black Lamb) in 90's post punk band "Wretched Refuse" as rhythm guitar, where they won Westwords Best Live Show of 1996.
"Chevy" Martinez started playing bass guitar and age 9 listening to "Metallica, Iron Maiden, and AC/DC" with childhood friend guitarist Joshua Lopez (Nikka Costa) Chevy was co-founding member of 90's all-star funk/punk band "Psychodelic Zombies" and shared the stage with bands like Fishbone & Primus. He then went on in 2003 to play with "Hope 7" and now current band member Dave Noble (Killjoy) when hes not playing with effect69 hes on occasion doing studio session work in LA with producer "Tim James".
D'Wayne Sigel comes to us from the nations heartland Illinois, we wont hold that against him... In his free time he owns and operates his own Petting Zoo in Vallejo, CA. and just the same he's "An Animal" on the drums!
"Mad" Vlad Spears is the founder of Daevlmakr Media and records as BlueDeceiver. He's read every book about Sci-Fi and anything else he can get his hands on. He keeps us supplied with custom audio software and audio manglers like the Daevl.Plugs. Vlad is what you call a "Mad Scientist of Sci-Fidelity."
Some house, a bit of soul, a touch of funk and a load of jazz (influence at least). Blend that lot together and the result is something a little bit different, laid back and refreshing. Every other Wednesday afternoon (14:00-16:00 gmt) on SS Radio Deep and Soulful.
