Hi. We're the Egg Babies Orchestra. We're a cover band. We play in Baltimore every few months and we've made a promise to hardly ever play the same song twice. We'll stick to that promise 99% of the time, but please don't get on our case when we play "Peace, Love and Understanding" again.
We began as a two-piece (Myers/Andler) who played half Myers compositions and half cover songs. Over time, we forgot about the Myers songs and started adding members. Come see the Egg Babies these days, and you'll see anywhere from 7 to 13 of us on stage at once.
Most of us currently play or have played in other bands that feature original music, so please don't resent us for being a cover band. These other bands include: Steve Hefter & Friends of Friends, Water School, Chris Laun & The Meteor Maids, Quartet Offensive, Gary B & The Notions, Wye Oak, Judd & Maggie, J-Roddy Walston & The Business, Challenge Club, Eureka Birds, Karmella's Game and National Razor. You name a group with an ampersand in it, and one of us has probably been it.
Originally, we only played in celebration of one of our birthdays. Now, we're more lax about that.
Our friend Bovie designs and sells a new Egg Babies t-shirt for every show that we play.
We'll happily consider any cover song suggestions that you have, so please email us or post a comment with your thoughts. Of course, we'll have to deem it to be in our collective wheelhouse for it to advance to the next round.
On April 5th, 2008, we played our first ever Movie-themed night, where we played nothing but songs from popular motion pictures. We won't do that for every show, but it was successful enough of an idea that we'll certainly consider doing it again.
We'd love to play your wedding or birthday party, so please write us!
Also, we're always looking for new band members. Horns are something that we'd totally love to have, in addition to pedal steel guitars. Contact us if you think you have what it takes, where "what it takes" equals "musically talented, reliable, adept at independent study and able to deal with large groups of people/sounds."
Here's some nice stuff that people have written about us/filmed us doing:
THANKS FOR THE FRIENDSHIP. WHAT A GREAT BAND. WHEN YOU CAN HAVE THAT MANY MEMBERS & NOT GET IN THE WAY OF EACH OTHER, & WANTING MORE MEMBERS. I THINK AN EVEN DOZEN WOULD FIT THE BAND JUST RIGHT. LOVED EVIL WOMAN!!!
EGG BABIES: multi media culturally cross referenced melody signals of time power....oh yeah, i went there! (btw, this message could also be written as follows: "Dude, seriously, you rule")
Last night's show was so fun! I could listen to you guys play movie songs for hours. Thanks for making my birthday a good one. I'll definitely try and make it to the next show.
