Sounds Like
Ego Armalade PRESS

...were followed by Ego Armalade, an up and coming band from Leicester. These guys were what live music is all about, they put on a stunning live performance. Their set was a real spectacle. They are real masters of their trade, fantastic catchy songs, with a real raw indie sound. They were the sort of band that you could listen to all night, each of their songs different from the previous. Their songs had glimpses of Kasabian and The Coral, but also managed to portray a real unique sound. These guys were swapping instruments, joining the crowd and involving the crowd at any opportunity, at one point the drummer had become the lead singer and was in the midst of the crowd, a guitarist was now the drummer, and the previous lead singer had taken over on guitar duties, and a young member of the Worse for Wear crowd took over on the tambourine! Something not to be missed, if you get a chance to see these guys again, jump at it. If these guys do not make it to the very top of the music industry in the next year or two, I would be very surprised.

GIG OF THE WEEK // EGO ARMALADE AT THE CHARLOTTE
All of a sudden Leicester feels like the coolest place on the planet. No, really. Consider this, Kasabian are rock royalty, their old school chum Jersey Budd is tipped to be the new Bob Dylan, The Displacements look set to conquer the world with their breezy new wave anthems and Kyte are leaving arched eyebrows behind them everywhere they go. Then there’s this lot. This is a big night for Ego Armalade. There’s a CD in the shops and the boys have indulged in the kind of self-promotion that would make a Big Brother wannabe blush. There’s a poster on every wall in their home city and they dished out more cards than the referee at Leicester City’s last home match. That’s saying something. They’re rewarded with a packed out ’Charlotte’and giggling, jiggling young things at the front are in the best of moods by the time Ego step on stage courtesy of Senses’ shimmering guitar anthems and The Dandilions’ cover of Musical Youth’s Pass The Dutchie. Ego then crank the fun up another notch with their chaotic dub-reggae that gets everyone peeling their feet off the sticky floor to hop a long to Like A Debonair Raving Rabbit In Headlights. These are crazy people, kids. Their best moment is ‘Spit In Yer Face’ that starts like ‘Roxanne’ by The Police and then lazily lurches into a lolloping groove while a Noddy Holder sound a like hollers: “He plays the didgeridoo/Round the barbecue/Yes it’s true/She’ll be loving you.” That can only be a good thing.

Sohostrut INTERVIEW

“Face Like A Smacked Arse” is a wonderful title for a tune. Ego Armalade ’s excellent song sums up the attitude of so many. And they deliver it with a panache that would not be out of place on early Rolling Stones, with a grin of a young Steve Marriott. There’s hard guitar and raunchy vocals and it crashes in and out of the speakers.
By Jonny Magus

Ego Armalade were damn good, as per. What else can I say really? From "Mama’s Got Milkers" to "The Fox," they were just one big, jangling blur of energy who, as the last act before Jack Penate, managed to prime a full house. "Sooooo good" is all I managed to write down whilst dancing, and seeing as that’s pretty accurate, I’ll leave it at that.

What a neat little outfit outta Leicester the oddly named Marmaladers are…a boogie pop feel with some ace face attitude. Ska and urgent r’n’b pop collide energetically rendering up a punked out indie rock with a pilled up geezerish charm.
By Jim Mattison
Bugbear Promotions

Then of course, came Leicester legends Ego Armalade. Their set was as tight as ever, and from the very first song to the end, the crowd was dancing, by now, under a cloud of drunken haze. The appearance of the Fox caused a ripple of excitement for the first timers, and the stage invasion by members of most of the bands who had played that night turned the scene into one more reminiscent of a post-Brighton Beach party than a concert. Old classics such as "Mama’s Got Milkers, " went down a storm, and made sure that Ego Armalade firmly made their mark on the most successful Porked yet.

...before the stupendously brilliant Ego Armalade emerged with their tremendous punchy melodic pop songs. This is the next big Leicester band, I have no doubt in my mind whatsoever about that. Watch out for them. The fact that the bands vocalist was kicked out of the event (albeit for a very innocuous comment) is perhaps a sign of future notoriety which, of course, can only be a good thing...

The Ego’s between song instument swapping madness made for a fast paced set, somewhere between Captain Beefheart and Led Zeppelin.....they are total entertainers!!
By Kevin Hewick
Summer Sundae Review

T: A blistering three track E.P. steeped in rich sixties presentation, reminiscent of the early work of The Who but given an intensely pleasing modern retro feel before we move on to the more ska-fuelled pulsation of "See No Evil", which is not the old Television track, in case you were wondering. The wonderfully ferocious "Mama’s Got Milkers" completes proceedings with a bang and I can’t help feeling that we’ve got something special in this Leicester band that fills me with expectation for future success.

N: Calling this slick would give the wrong impression as this band’s raw production and Kinks-esque styling, with its bare knuckle ride over what is an infectious ska-tinged rattle will go down well on all quarters. Certainly no karaoke, these boys deserve to be heard. 9/10

Old school rock a boogie pop feel...nigh on like blinking Mungo Jerry!! Almost Noddy Holder vocally...Ska and urgent r’n’b pop collide lovingly...from Leicester...and largely enjoyed by foxes.

With the driving bass ’n’ drum attack of B.R.M.C added to the vocal delivery of classic garage rockers like the Seeds and the Sonics, with the call and response breakdown that recalls the Hives at their best Think the Von Bondies strangling the Saints down a dark alleyway Potent stuff!

Next up was EGO ARMALADE. These guys need know introduction, and if by some strange twist of fate you havent witnessed them perform, you should! From the first chord its obvious that something special is happening. Band rotations would occur throughout the gig, though it never affected the sound or performance. The vibe that they give out is a very happy one; the sound reminds me of bands like The Coral in some ways, but is always an original EGO ARMALADE one. And one of the best things about watching them is the energy they put out in their performance, when you see theyre having fun; you have fun, simple as that!

Ego Armalade completely rocked the house, greeted with chants of Ego! Ego!. Their sound is like Slade meet Oasis with added energy - lad’s rock ’n’ roll in other words, and nothing wrong with that.

   About Ego Armalade

A Legend: Call the register and get the headcount, cause we’re about to take this to the next level, and things are gonna get messy. Standard!

Firstly and foremost this music is the most exciting shit to come out of England since fuck knows. This band is what Led Zeppelin would have sounded like if they’d knocked about with Oasis circa ‘94.

People are gathering from The Leys, The Monsell, The Dodge, The Saff, The Parks, in fact all corners of this Roman City, and are getting lost in the sheer passion of the Ego show. Getting rid of their worries from the moment the lights go down, these boys are used to provoking spontaneous stage invasions and chants of adoration. EGO! EGO!

This music ain’t necessarily about sounding off and putting the world to rights, more about leading by example and hammering parties into the ground to show you what they mean.

A Quote: “You think your having a good time when you’re 17. Practice it every weekend until you’re 23, then come back and tell me what you’ve learned! My guess is you’ll know how to do it properly!”

Leicester lads Ego Armalade are taking their show on the road with mesmerising live performances and energetic antics. Owen Morris (Producer to Oasis, The Verve, and most recently The View) managed to find himself frenzied in a feverishly Class-A Ego Rush. After meeting the crew and showing his appreciation of the gig, which he dubbed the best gig he’s ever seen in a venue this size, things got a whole less formal. This man felt ‘The Groove’ after hearing underground classics, such as, ‘Face Like A Smacked Arse’, ‘A Brief Stop’, ‘The Fox’ and ‘Like A Debonair Raving Rabbit In Headlights’.

Through ’06 - ’07, Ego Armalade have shifted 500 copies of their ‘Bedrock Sessions’ EP, sold-out their home show’s, and provided support slots for the likes of The Enemy, The Twang, Reverend And The Makers, The Cribs, Jamie T, Jack Peñate and their own personal heroes Kula Shaker. Things are gonna get crazy in ’08, so get on board.

A Piece Of Friendly Advice: Get a grip cause if you’re looking for Rock ‘N’ Roll, try a weekend with this gang of rascals, and you’ll see what Rock ‘N’ Roll in the new millennium is all about.

When not on the job Ego Armalade have spent the past year jumping in canals, surfing taxis, jumping out of hedges for a laugh to shit people up, stealing the front wheel of someone’s push bike, watching DVD’s in the Peak District, sleeping on major inner city roundabouts, being Robbie Earle in Sophbeck, buying an automatic Cavalier, being mistaken for Embrace, being pictured at ‘Glasto’ looking rough holding a bottle of Yop, knocking about with a Manhattan Hungarian, straddling a barbed-wire fence and overheard saying “I fookin’ wish I hadn’t done this”, having countless lost weekends and going to see the Kings Of Leon. This team are in it together for the long run.

Morris has expressed interest in recording the band but the question is; will he be allowed and can he handle it? In the meantime the rest of the country don’t even have a clue what’s about to hit ‘em.

Are these boys just living one major life party? Yes I think they are!

Bonjour, Ego Armalade…
