'Either this is madness or it is Hell.' 'It is neither,' replied the voice. 'It is knowledge.'

ehlvee's Interests
|
| General | I have several interests, and of course the trick is to remain active in my top interests and still leave myself time for things like my family and possibly even sleep.
I have a genuine literary interest in comic books. Yes, it's incredibly geeky on one level, but on another level comics are an outstanding storytelling medium, and there are some great storytellers writing comics these days.
I am a musician and my primary instrument is guitar. The band I'm in even has a myspace page, but I won't share that link here with the intent of keeping some sense of separation between these two worlds.
I am not a scientist, but I am a fan of science and scientists and all they have done to expand our civilization.
I am not a philsopher, but I am a fan of philosophy and philosophical discourse. My current favorite movie is Waking Life. If you like thought-provoking ideas, check that one out.
| | Music | Hendrix (his blues pieces especially); Sting; Bach (gotta love the fugue); Eagles; Eric Johnson; Clapton (of course); Keb Mo (great acoustic blues guitarist); Ben Folds (love the biting lyrics and excellent melodies); | | Movies | All time favorite film is Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, followed closely by Waking Life. A recent fave is Stranger than Fiction. | | Television | Fewer shows than I used to watch. Down to Heroes, and will look for Sci-Fi channel updates on Hulu.com (Eureka, Battlestar Glactica). | | Books | One of many fav comics: Superman for All Seasons, Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale. Great prose books: Snowcrash, Dune (only read the first of that series), Ender's Game. I read Neil Gaiman's new books as well. | | Heroes | Don E. Knuth, computer scientist and author of The Art of Computer Programming series. All programmers should have that on the shelf. He also created an entire computerized typesetting system called TeX so he could write The Art of Computer Programming. That's just cool. |

About me:
Hi. I'm the owner and managing editor of ComicCritique.Com, an online publication the main focus of which is to review comic books.
|
Who I'd like to meet:
This category should definitely say “I'd like to meet and have a beer with...” There are people I'd like to meet for the sheer novelty of it but wouldn't want to spend any time with them. President W comes to mind — meet, maybe get a photo, then so long and off to have a beer with someone with whom I could have a good chat with.
So, some folks I'd like to meet and have a beer with (in no particular order):
- Joss Whedon (great, even visionary, storyteller)
- Stephen Hawking (bet a british pound he likes Guinness)
- Wil Wheaton (a very honest writer; reading his blog makes me want to write, which I consider to be a high compliment)
- Geoff Johns (great comic book writer)
- Arlo Guthrie (musician/great storyteller)
- Orson Scott Card (great storyteller)
- (more later)...
