A type of popular dance music originating in the 1950s, characterized by a heavy beat and simple melodies. Rock and roll was an amalgam of black rhythm and blues and white country music, usually based on a twelve-bar structure and an instrumentation of guitar, bass, and drums.
Ehren Crumpler’s Mustang Revival combines diverse musical backgrounds to create a true roots-rock experience. Hailing from Fort Collins, Colorado, this 3-piece band delivers a perfect blend of rock, blues and country. This hot new band offers a mix of carefully mastered originals, and select covers ranging from the Flying Burrito Brothers and Joe Ely, to the Grateful Dead and Bob Dylan.
Front man Ehren Crumpler from Michigan City, IN, most notably of the beloved Colorado Jamband, “Wasabi,” brings an organic and fluid writing style to the table. Crumpler-penned tunes such as “Corner Bar”, “Dirty Game” and “Bye-Bye September” are powerful and reflective, with accessible lyrics. Crumpler captures his audience’s attention with driving rhythm guitar and nimble Garcia-influenced lead lines; His vocal style is reminiscent of JJ Cale.
Barry Bates, hailing from all over Texas, and formerly of the “Pet Peeves” and the “Fondue Brothers,” holds down rhythm duties on the drums while adding lead vocals and harmonies. Barry has worked extensively in the South Texas region including the diverse and popular music scenes of Austin, Houston and Dallas. He has shared the stage with such notables as WC Clark, Iain Matthews and Ruben V, and the late great Jesse Taylor.
Dave Nielsen holds down the low end with a funky, melodic style that fastens Crumpler’s guitar to Bates’ drum kit. Nielsen’s resume includes years of touring with The Taylor and Cole Revue followed by Bay Area studio and stage time with Damascus Road and James Garcia.
The first CD from Ehren Crumpler’s Mustang Revival is set to be released in October 2008. On it the band delivers a solid performance of Crumpler’s originals and a select cover. Rehearsals and the band’s well-received live performances have yielded more original tunes, with the second ECMR release slated for late spring of 2009. ECMR is a crowd-pleasing outfit, guaranteed to get a crowd moving wherever they unpack their gear.
