8 Lives Spent can be described as a high-energy, blue-collar, roots rock band with a good time feel. They mix up a four-hour show blending unique originals with obscure B-side covers long lost in the vaults of rock-n-roll. They firmly stand on the ideology that people that lay down hard-earned money to see a band should walk away with a memorable experience, and with that they thrive to be the hosts of the party. Described by many as “Southern boys with a kick-ass punch”, 8 Lives Spent is not your typical bar band. The show is unique in the fact that the band purposely steers clear of any material that has been beaten to death by mainstream radio or other bands. Covers range from vintage Johnny Winter, to old-school Metallica, to classics such as Montrose and UFO. They even do their own hard-hitting, heavy version of “Walking After Midnight” by Patsy Cline, so it's needless to say that the last thing you can expect from these guys is the norm. What you can expect is a night of non-stop rock that involves the crowd right from the opening song. As one fan put it, “I thought you guys did a great job. It was not just a bar band performance. You all put on a good show”.
8 Lives Spent was founded by drummer Brian Holt who started his music career in the late 70's. Brian kept in contact with former band mate, bassist Joe Jones, and they in turn linked up with guitarist and vocalist Brandy James who introduced his own unique style of rock with a dash of funk. The three immediately began building on the chemistry while discussing the overall state of music today. They agreed that, for the most part, music had become somewhat stagnant and concluded that what the world needed was a rebirth of old-school rock-n-roll. This is the type of stuff that you jammed to at field parties and small clubs during a time when rock took center stage in places all across the country. It was a time when entire city blocks were devoted to live music and it was a time that people went out to see a band based on its distinctiveness. With a game plan in place the band recruited guitarist Rob Saville to its ranks in September of 2007. Rob immediately worked into the lineup both in style and chemistry.
In December of 2008 the band released its debut CD, “Self-Inflicted Wounds” engineered by Billie Spencer of Nostalgic Records. Shortly thereafter various cuts were picked up by local rock station WWRT, as well as Fatcat Radio, and Classic X in Cincinnati. In February 2009 the CD was picked up by UK's Fireworks Magazine who gave it rave revues, and in May of that same year the band was chosen to be one of the inaugurating acts for Summer Jam I featuring national recording artists LA Guns.
The coming months will see the band branching out into the DC/Baltimore market, and who knows from there…
