Influences
Wow...there's so much! My earliest love of Prog Rock (ELP, Yes, early Genesis), lots of 70's pop and disco (the first bass-line I ever learned was Billie Jean...ok, thats 80's, but its got that vibe!) and later on many disco house producers (King Brit). Some 80's (although I wouldn't like to admit it...), mainly alternative, metal and trash, but also plenty of A-list pop-radio (gotta love 'Pump-up the Valume' and Black Box...) even classical music got in the mix, being part of a youth-orchestra and playing wind-inst. for 7 years. In recent years Dub, Reggae (Jimi Cliff, Fat Fredie's Drop, Mad Prof.), Hip-Hop (Tribe, The Herbalizer, Life Savas) Salsa/Afro-Cuban-beat and Jazz (as part of my work as a live sound engineer I've been exposed to many talented local and national artists, after which I began listening to those genres on the radio, as well as recorded materials of many different artists) and after coming down from a long period of raving-fever in both SA and UK, I'm now chilling with lots of down-tempo-elctronica producers (list is too long...).
Sounds Like
A handful of dub, carefully cooked in tech-oil, spiced with tasty-hot samples, cooled to perfection in the chill box over night, to create crispy yet fine flavas
ekTek is producer-engineer-dj-musician (not necessarily in that order) Nikki B, currently residing in Berkeley, CA. Cherishing the electronic/sampled-based sound of artists such as DJ Shadow, Lemon Jelly, Mr. Scruff, Massive Attack and many others, ekTek creates her compositions at her home studio, using a combination of electronic sequencing, sampling and live recordings. You can catch her working the sound board in various SF bay area clubs or playing bass for pop icon Southway (www.myspace.com/southwaymusic) or experimental elctrofusion group InterXn.

nikki- i am sitting here on a rainy desert morning in Baja giving your tracks a good listen... damn, girl...I am really digging them. I will never forget the first time I met you... in that crazy Lift... you were DJing in the wee hours of first light, smiling and dropping some seriously good beats for the freaks... that has stuck with me ever since. Your talent speaks, sings, grooves, spins and plays for itself... fluid motion! thank you! marly
