About me: Artist, costumer, and lifelong student of dance, Ela Rogers began her journey into the art of Middle Eastern Belly Dance in 2004. She began studying Egyptian Belly Dance in Massachusetts, under the direction of the lovely Elena El Amar, and quickly took a liking to this beautiful and spiritual dance form. In addition to her studies, she soon began to shift into the realm of Tribal Style Belly Dance, becoming captivated by its earthy, serpentine movements. After discovering that there were no Tribal Style instructors nearby, Ela developed a daily practice with numerous DVDs, including the Fat Chance Bellydance series, and used video analysis, and a dedicated Yoga and Pilates practice to aid her in self-training. Seeking out as many workshop studies as she can, Ela is largely self-taught, and considers herself to be an experiment in dance, using elements from her ballet and contemporary dance backgrounds as well as the “dark horse styles” of hip hop fusion and street dance. She is a dedicated performer who is passionate about all forms of art, and will always be open to the world’s continuous teachings and inspiration. It’s never too late to do something you really want to do!
