Elaine O'Rourke has released her DEBUT CD - NO BEGINNING, NO END - It is AVAILABLE NOW on her website www.elaineorourke.com, www.cdbaby.com/cd/elaineorourke and at music stores in Gloucester, MA.
Compelling and hypnotic, dark and haunting -- these are words repeatedly used to describe her debut CD. Resonating with the spirit of her native Ireland, Elaine's deceptively sweet and seductive voice and entrancing acoustic guitar style lure the listener to a mystical, ancient place. A tempting risk-taker, Elaine is an explorer who beckons you to wander, curious, beyond the expected, beyond the comfortable conventions of modern folk music.
"The songs have wonderful lyrics and her voice is clear and resonant. I thought it was very haunting and moody in some pieces and I love that. She has a lot of interesting instrumentation. She slipped easily from the Celtic folk sound to a more jazzy piece called 'Fly Baby Fly' to rock. When I first played her CD in the store, two customers wanted to know who was singing", Susan Emerson of Gloucester Music. "She's just a fantastic spirit. Her vibe is going to sell her records. She's got a very unique style", Fly Amero of the band "Orleans".
This CD is with a full band - Mike Barry of "Super Genius" on bass, electric guitar, keyboard; Dave Mattacks on drums, percussion; Jim Lounsbury on violin, piano; and other guest appearances by Milt Reder, Rocky Kramm and David Sholl.
Diversity is Elaine's trademark; she lets out her theatrical side when she performs her originals, Irish ballads or favorite old standards in her cabaret-style shows - watch out for her feather boa!
On a more personal note, Elaine has battled with Crohn's Disease for many years. Unfortunately during the making of this CD she became severely ill. This resulted in many surgeries and alot of worrying times for those around her. Thankfully since her final surgery in June 2006 she has completely recovered. Power of positive thought, inner strength, an awakening of spirituality through her yoga teaching practice has helped her deal with these life challenges. And most of all the love of those that really care.
