..
I first got into hardcore in 1990ish when the first more mainstream tunes were apearing in the charts. I had heard plenty of early house before this but tunes by Altern-8, SL2, Seduction and the like got me hooked to the sound. It was raw, completely different to anything else about at the time and full of energy! I first started raving in Autumn 1992 and despite a slow start haven't looked back since. After a brief period of power brock jungle raving I was introduced to Labrynth in 1994 and discovered the happy vibe once again and never looked back! I got my first set of dodgy belt drives back in 1996 after coming back from a year in Holland and enjoying playing on my mates (decks that is) and slowly built up my hardcore collection as well as upgrading my set up along the way! My style has changed alot over the years drawing influences from across the hardcore spectrum to my current style today, basically a bit of everything (except gabber;-P). My fave DJ's include the likes of Sy, Seduction, Brisk, Luna-C, Hixxy, Sharkey, Ponder etc and fave producers along the lines of Ham, Seduction, Vibes n Wishdokta, CLSM, Ponder, Sharkey, Demo, basically covering most styles from breakbeat to freeform to more trancey hardcore alongside the more banging twisted sounds.
ABOUT ELATION:
Elation was founded at the start of 2000 by Mark (HB), Paul (Ponder) and Ryan (Sonic), initially as there were very few promoters supporting Hardcore at that time (3 infact!). Our aim was simply to put on a great party, encompassing as many aspects of the scene as possible - including big names who were still supporting the sound, and the wealth of exciting up and coming talent.
Shortly after our 1st birthday, Ryan decided to leave Elation to concentrate on other things, allowing us to incorporate Tom U4EA into the promotion circle, bringing new ideas to the table.
Although our first events were held at the Chunnel Club in Vauxhall (now Studio 33), its The Electrowerkz in Islington which became our first proper home. Its there that Elation really started to establish itself as one of the most innovative events on the circuit, adopting a policy to cater for the wide variety of music offered by the Hardcore dance scene, while also trying to actively promote some of the lesser known, but massively talented artists. Infact, the now famous CLSM Live PA made its London debut at Elation, and top international artists such as Carbon Based and The Panacea have made their UK debuts for us.
However, having spent the last 3 years at Electrowerkz, and attempting everything we could think of - from Christmas PA's to having a U.V. car on the dancefloor, to Jedi mind tricks live on stage - we feel its time to move on, and start a new chapter in the Elation legacy.
Well, time for an update! I am now not involved in the promotion of Elation having decided that promoting is no longer my thing! In to replace me is Wizbit who I am sure will do just as good a job, big up Tony! I am also no longer accepting up front hardcore bookings from anybody except Raindance! I have given as much as I can give to the scene and have finally decided it just isn't worth it at the moment and I am enjoying some me time for once! I am now putting all of my DJing efforts into my classic hardcore, jungle, old skool sets so I can enjoy my DJing once more so expect to see me back on the circuit soon at any number of classic style events! Back to the music I love the most, away from all of the politics!
