The north german marathon man's rudy face reveals not a single wrinkle. His experiences as a runner must simply be inferred.

Bernie himself struggles to explain why he subjects himself to this physical punishment. "Running boosts my self-confidence. In day-to-day life I feel much calmer. Through running you get the maximum out of yourself...but still always want more. The nature is stronger and always shows me where my limits are. That's the whole appeal - nothing more, nothing less."

Bernie finished his first half-marathon in 1 hour and 39 minutes. Some weeks later he completed his first marathon in Berlin 1999, crossing the finish line after 4 hours and 17 minutes: "I knew then that middle and long distance running was for me." One year later the mastermind of ElbDream finished his second marathon in Hamburg in 4 hours and 3 minutes.

"There is the fantastic feeling you experience as you had down the home stretch. I am always running, sometimes faster, sometimes slower and when I'm not running...I compose new Songs, because music is a milestone in my life. Bernie was raised in North Germany and has lived in Berlin, Chicago, Ireland and Cologne."
