About me:

The Elbert Fire Protection District (EFPD) covers 183 square miles and servers about 1,000 people. From Elbert the boundaries are about 4 miles west, 13 miles east, 5 miles north and 8 miles south of the town and includes about 2 miles of Northern El Paso County.

Sorry if we woke you in the middle of the night but someone in your neighborhood is fighting for their life. Sorry if we block the road and make you turn around but there's been a bad wreck with dying children on the ground.

When you see us coming you'll understand. Let us have the right of way someone needs a helping hand. Sometimes a child is chocking sometimes a broken leg. Sometimes a heart stops beating, and we got there to late.

So if you see us crying when we think we are alone you'll know we had a "bad" one and were feeling mighty low. We don't do it for the money - you know we don't get paid. We don't do it for the glory but for a life that might get saved.

Somewhere deep within us our souls are crying out "We are here to help our neighbors in their hour of pain and doubt." God gave us something special to help us see you through, we do it because we are needed and we care about you too.

BURN BAN IN EFFECT

A burn ban is in effect for the Elbert Fire Protection District. Please keep our community safe. Do not burn with out a permit from Elbert Fire.

Update:

Elbert Sheriff’s Office increases Burn Restriction to Stage II!

On Wednesday, February 18, 2009, The Sheriff’s Office, at the recommendation of the Fire Chiefs Association, increased the county wide burn ban for all unincorporated areas of Elbert County to a Stage II restriction level. This will remain in effect until further notice. This is a result of unusually high fire danger due to lack of precipitation and high winds causing red flag warnings within Elbert County.

Under Stage II restrictions, no open burning is allowed, the sale and use of fireworks and education rockets are prohibited. The safe use of charcoal and gas grills are allowed and not affected by this ban. Violation of the burn restriction carries penalties for 1st time offenses of $110.00 as set forth in the county burn restriction ordinance 06-01.

“With the unusual fire weather conditions being experienced during the winter months, and low precipitation, we determined it would be a proactive move to prevent wild land fires,” said John Hillmann, Big Sandy Fire Protection District Chief and Fire Chief Association Chairman.

For further information call the Elbert County Office of Emergency Management at 303.805.6131 or your local Fire Protection District.
