About El Calabozo Radio
El Calabozo Radio is an internet radio station that has broadcast Latin Alternative Music since its beginnings on KLBC and KCTY College Radio in 2001. Based in Long Beach, California, El Calabozo Radio has been an outlet for both mainstream music and independent artists. It has also been a major presence at Latin Alternative events in Southern California. In their reporting to the music periodical Radio and Records, El Calabozo Radio also has supported many indie artists' growth.
Having garnered the attention of the Latin Alternative Scene in Los Angeles, El Calabozo Radio also has participated in charity fundraising events to provide help for Hurricane Katrina relief and the American Red Cross.
El Calabozo Radio's website was launched in 2004, with an Award Show where independent artists were recognized for their talent and music. In addition, El Calabozo Radio was part of several battle of the bands hosted by B.B. Kings in Hollywood.
In the media, it has made coverage of main Latin Alternative events: Antidoto Festival 2006, Antidoto Festival 2007, Heineken Events, Battle of Bands, Chido Fest, BMI Pre-Grammy Parties, NAB, Concerts and many other events. El Calabozo has also conducted many interviews of big artists including: Cafe Tacuba, Molotov, Aleks Syntek, Alex Lora (El Tri), Julieta Venegas, Babasónicos, Allison, Zoe, Panteon Rococo, Jumbo, Victimas del Dr. Cerebro, Ely Guerra, Austin TV, Inspector, Viva Malpache, Pastilla, Los Abandoned, Monte Negro, Control Machete, Rata Blanca, El Gran Silencio, Delux, Jaguares y muchos más.
