Canyon Cody : DJ / productor de Gnawledge
The next Gnawledge release from is an instrumental hip-hop experiment from Granada, Spain. Inspired by Andalucia's vibrant history of immigration, Granada Doaba follows the converging paths of flamenco + Arab music, with tributary contributions from Cuba, India and Boombap.
Based on Canyon Cody's 2008 Fulbright sponsored research project into the international roots of Spanish music, Granada Doaba uses sample-based hip-hop to explore the history of cultural confluence in Andalusia. Using the past for solid footing, skeleton beats were built outta dusty vinyl from Granada's pawnshop. Then, on the shoulders of giants, new rhythms started to grow. An open ensemble of 12 musicians gathered to collaborate on the project, bringing together a diverse background of Moroccan, Venezuelan, British, Japanese and Spanish influences.
Co-produced by Gnotes, Granada Doaba is an alternative history of traditional music. United by breakbeats, the flamenco guitar and Arab oud take center stage in a post-modern remix of the la convivencia of Al-Andalus, featuring collaborations from Juan Habichuela "El Nieto" and the Al-Tarab Ensemble.
