    Ol' Wordy Bastard's Interests
GeneralHorror, fantasy, science fiction, indie & foreign movies. Perfecting the verbal Art of Sarcasm. Politics. Baseball. Wolfdogs. Dark, twisted humor. Spicy food. Good beer. Pop culture. Group howls. Cooking.
MusicFirst and foremost - RUSH!!! Aside from that, old school punk, metal & Lollapalooza-era alt-grunge - especially the loud-quiet-loud stuff made famous by Juana's Adicion', the Pumpkins and the Pixies, among others - anything loud, abrasive and obnoxious that makes the ears bleed and sets the brain on fire. I also have a soft spot in my heart for Latin jazz and raucous Irish soccer hooligan drinking anthems, but I really hate soccer.
MoviesAll-time faves: Blade Runner, Excalibur, Jaws, Close Encounters, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, the Lord of the Rings & Matrix trilogies, Lost Highway, Wild at Heart, Mulholland Drive, Blue Velvet, Magnolia, V for Vendetta, Where the Buffalo Roam, Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas, The Blues Brothers, Goodfellas, Nightbreed, The Big Lebowski, Reservoir Dogs, Talk Radio
More recent faves: The Fountain, Pan's Labyrinth, Children of Men, Grindhouse, Amores Perros, Factotum, City of God, Little Children, Old Boy, Audition, A History of Violence, The Proposition, Donnie Darko, Curse of the Golden Flower, House of Flying Daggers, Irreversible, The Departed, Brick, Primer
TelevisionI don't watch as much as I used to, but when I do, it's baseball (Diamondbacks) mainly. Classic horror and sc-fi tv. Night Stalker, X-Files, Farscape, Star Trek, Buffy, Daily Show, South Park, SNL, Kids In The Hall. Just keep cop shows, courtroom dramas, CSI and that non-stop parade of absurdity known as "reality tv" the FUCK away from me.
BooksHorror fiction. Thought-provoking non-fiction. Krakauer's "Into The Mist" and "Into The Wild", McCammon's "Swan Song", King's "The Stand", Becker's "The Denial of Death", Sam Keen's "The Passionate Life". Anything by Bukowski, Clive Barker or Hunter S. Thompson
HeroesRoy Batty, Neil Peart, Hunter S. Thompson, Eric Bogosian, Darren Aronofsky, le Marquis de Sade, Ernest Becker, Randi Rhodes, Bill Maher, Jon Stewart, Steven Colbert, Clive Barker, Philip K. Dick, David Lynch, Jello Biafra, Serj Tankian, Michael Moore, Lloyd Dobler, Keith Olbermann, Chris McCandless...just to name a few.

About me:
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

There's a race of men that don't fit in,
A race that can't stay still;
So they break the hearts of kith and kin,
And they roam the world at will.
They range the field and they rove the flood,
And they climb the mountain's crest;
Theirs is the curse of the gypsy blood,
And they don't know how to rest.
-- Robert Service

Some, perhaps most, believe that Life is about achievement, and the slow and steady accumulation of things like power and prestige, money and material things. Forever chasing that elusive fiction we call the American Dream. Hoping beyond hope that a life spent chained to the soul-grinding wheels of perpetual production and consumption will ultimately be rewarded with the freedom to buy an RV, hit the road, and visit all those places we spent our lives daydreaming about while we were busy doing other things. Or if we're really lucky we'll have squirreled away enough money to buy an overpriced cookie-cutter house in some sun-drenched boneyard of senility in Florida or Arizona, where we can play bingo, golf and shuffleboard to our hearts content while our bodies fall apart and we shit and drool all over ourselves for the few years we have left before we return to the dust from which we came.

Most do this without a second thought, for this is The Way Things Are and Always Have Been.

And so, after spending our lives immersed in mindless, dehumanizing work sanctioned by a fictitious God who promised us Life beyond the one we know, all too soon the vigor and glory of youth falls into ruin, and we find ourselves old and wondering where the fuck all those years went while we were busy worrying about 6-pack abs, fixed-rate mortgages, stock portfolios, IRA's, and American Idol.

But not me.

Yes, we are all going to die sooner or later, and when the Reaper eventually finds me I will most likely be cold, wet, and penniless, and living with at least one dog in a Van Down by the River.

But when that day comes, I want to have a better story to tell than, "I sold my soul for the American Dream and all I got was this lousy t-shirt."
Who I'd like to meet:
Misfits, dreamers, rebels, creative spirits, fellow Rush fans, nonconformists, disturbers of the peace, and anyone else who is equally disgusted with/horrified by the army of flesh-eating conservative turd merchants currently wielding entirely too much power at home and abroad. Due to the overhwleming preponderance of picture-peddling bimbos, geeks, hustlers and snake oil salesmen of every kind, I have disabled the "Friend Add" function on this page. Happy belated birthday, 'cuz, and I'm sure the election results were a nice present! I know, Obama is not leftie enough for a lot of hipsters, but I'm just glad the GOP has been reduced to a steaming pile of shit after the election.
We've got to hang out before I leave for Colorado!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

As the value in Star Wars collectables decreased, scenes like this, became commonplace on our nations highways....Enjoy!

Hey cuz...Is it just me, or is that, every time I go to the grocery store, some guy my age hops out of his minivan/SUV/Hummer with his issue and looks at me with a scowl, like "who the fuck are you? Why do you look so carefree? Where are YOUR kids, fuckwad?" I know I'm behind the 8-ball, but what the hell? I just started noticing this...

Hey Dave! Thanks bunches for the birthday well-wishing. My chidlens and I were pondering heading to the loft one evening a month or so ago. We sure are sad the Catalina is no more. What have you been showing lately?

Keep on keepin' on.
