ELD was formed in March -98 in Stavanger, Norway. At that time under the name A WINTER WITHIN. The dateline of the band has by now been divided into two different eras.
ERA 1:
The founder, and drummer of the band, S. Winter, contacted several musician friends asking them to join him - but settled with a female singer and and a guitar player, at this point in time the band was still without a name. This line-up lasted no longer than short of one month. From here and throughout the following six months A WINTER WITHIN experienced the turbulence of a lot of musicians joining and leaving the band in rapid succession. At one point there were six musicians involved, but in the end three of them left due to musical differences and lack of interest. During this six month period some more permanent members were introduced to the band. Laeturnus entered the band in June -98, and has since then been the band’s bass player and one of the really influential elements in the band. Then in the autumn the same year A WINTER WITHIN came in contact with guitarist Sanzia. He was tried out at rehearsals, and shortly after taken in as a full member of the band. Until the summer of -99 A WINTER WITHIN suffered under the toll of not having a steady singer. As a result of this they were approached by Morloc, offering himself to do the vocals. After not long he joined the band as a session vocalist/synth player. In the summer months of 2000, the band acquired yet another addition, danish guitarist F. Conquer. After a few rehearsals it became obvious that F. Conquer was able to act out the role as rhythm- guitarist for A WINTER WITHIN, thus being accepted as a full time member. Thoughts about a live session synth player had been under considerations for a longer period due to the limitedness of Morloc's movements on stage with both singing and playing synth at the same time. After trying out a couple of possible candidates for the job the pendulum finally stopped on British born Dominy. This lineup more or less persisted until the end of 2000...when the band broke up.
ERA 2:
After a long period of nothing, Laeturnus and S. Winter blew life into the old carcass of the band. Rehearsals alone for some months, while the two members were looking around for a guitarplayer, That position was filled by Midnatt, as things started to take form again. Laeturnus was prompted to start singing as well as playing bass. The band decided on a namechange, and ELD was born; to more suit the newfound style and sound. In late summer 2004 the demo "Primeval Vespers" was recorded.
Shortly after the recording and release of Primeval Vespers, Midnatt quit Eld, and the band was again the core duo. This was in the end to be the only and final working solution for S. Winter and Laeturnus. After a much needed "leave of absence" the founding members came together in January 2007, jumping straight into working on new material for a 2009 release.
Good! We've been getting positive reviews on the new album, and we're having some profile write up thingy in Metal Hammer(!!!!!), from what I was told by Brett, but its not an interview, just something based on the promo package that we sent out everywhere. And I'm less than $1000 away from finally paying off that drum kit, and shortly there after we'll be recording songs for an EP, that looks to be vinyl exclusive at this point (but I'll let you know when its done, and I'll get you a digital copy...at least the MP3's, if nothing else, unless you collect vinyl). Speaking of the album, I think I get 10 copies of it I can send to whomever...thats all I need, for my list of people to send it out to is pretty short. I always forget to ask, but I will do that now, and get back to you!
I also recorded drums for a side project I'm doing called Primordial Conviction...but between you and I, this will be a engineer editing miracle to make it sound good. I like the music, but the dude has no clue as to what he is actually playing(well, has no concept of time!!! but yet, stays in time), which is fucking bizarre to me, for a lot of his music does kick ass. Black/death metal...for comparison's sake, I'd say in the direction of Belphegor..not as good though. haha! But my drumming is just beastly on this...super intense.
FUCK yes! That new song sounds amazing!! It'd been awhile since I've dropped by. Glad to see new material is well on its way to being completed and released! :D
hey dude, I'm home now, so I can elaborate a little more on your comments! I totally hear you the recording. It seems like its been years and we're still not finished with our album...but oh well, the end result will be well worth it!! As I was saying earlier, I could send you that song via email. I'm guessing you would want it sent to your email on the Eld page? Shoot me a MySpace email and let me know. Talk to you later!
hey whats happening guys? I forgot to tell you that we have a new song on the Bound By Entrails page..rough mix, compressed to shit thanks to the MySpace player, but you still get an idea of what we're going for..hehe.
speaking of new material, whats the word on your new album?? I look forward to it very very much!
hey buddy, how are you?sorry for me..but you know, i have a meeting with my girl at the moment, she is here since 2 weeks so far:)hope everything is good with you and bethany!!?? skaal my bro!!!
