It's a mixture of theatre, cabaret & comedy.
Here’s a taste of the programme:
Cerise Shorts (June 6-9): Performers just love being in a Cerise de Gelder play. Natalie Carr (Best Actress at both Tropfest AND Short and Sweet) wouldn’t miss it for quids!
Lizard Girl & other Oz stories (June 6-9): Top directors Christina Cass and Bruce Langdon will lead you on some unusual local adventures.
Two Perfect (June 13-17): Two great actors, Giovanni Bartuccio and Tiffany Davis, Two great playwrights, Michael Olsen and Jane Miller, One great director, Beng Oh. Oh, it‚s just too perfect!
Seven of Hearts (June 13-17): Wayne Pearn directs a stellar cast in a new play written by one very naughty writer in Mark Andrew.
And things start getting even weirder, but don’t be a chicken!
IVF Chook (June 20-24) is composed of Le Coq‚ devised and performed by Komissar Kabaret and ‘I Feel Like Chicken Tonight’‚ written & directed by Christine Croyden.
And in keeping with the weird and chicken themes:
Techno Egg (June 20-24) performed by Krow’s Bar Kabaret. With original music and songs by Ella Filar.
The Adventures of Tinker Taroona (June 27-30) Wendy Little’s BIG show of Littleness!
Cha ChA Chop (July 1): A one night stand with Charity Shaw! She won‚t do it twice - honestly - so don’t miss it!
Play Dead (June 27- July 1): James Adler directs this edgy Eagle’s Nest Theatre production. Covers all your usual tasteful subjects, necrophilia, incest and cannibalism, well, tastefully, of course!
4x2 (July 4-8)‚ by Alex Broun. Yes, Mister Short & Sweet‚ himself. Four very masculine plays. Definitely not for wimps.
Scuttlebutt (July 4-8): If you thought the fellas were scary, stick around for what the girls get up to! Shannon Woollard directs a great cast in this fabulous play by A.F. Lall.
Flick (July 11-15) : Peita Collard from Crooked Theatre again directs this hit show from last year’s Fringe. Another winner written by Therese Cloonan. Flick is the new girl on the planet. She’ll charm your socks off, but will she really fit in?
The Winner (July 11-14). Well we know it’s going to be very good, but what is it? Since last year 9minds9works have been conducting readings at the Vic. Arts Centre of their short list (9 new plays submitted for possible production). We’re honoured to have the winning play from that competition premiering at our festival. But it‚s still a mystery for the moment. To be announced during the fest.
The Fiesta Grande Finale Partie! You won’t want to miss this one. Sunday July 15th 9pm. Put it in your diary now!
About me: El Dante’s Minnie Fiesta!
Winter may be just around the corner but things are really starting to warm up at Dante’s.
El Dante’s Minnie Fiesta‚ six weeks of hot new shows will be launched on Saturday June 2nd at the Final of the very popular Crash Test Drama‚ at Dante’s in Fitzroy. From Wednesday each week theatre lovers can enjoy two different shows playing per night, each for the week. One show for $10, or the both for only $15. You won’t find better value than that!
From the brilliant musical stand up comedy of Wendy Little to the underground cabarets of Ella Filar, there’s something for everyone. No subject’s off limits and no cow’s too sacred.
With the cream of Melbourne’s writing, directing and performing talent, and great parties to launch and close the fest, you’d be a really silly vegieburger to miss it!
