PEOPLE SAY:
"...applying the principles that guided classic rock greats like Pink Floyd and CSNY and combining their different approaches to "rock" music into a glorious, sorta trippy amalgamation of the best bits of each camp, from psychedelic rock guitar shredding to the medieval harmonies of CSNY's quietest folk ballads."

"Elder Mason live is delightfully melodic and surprisingly eclectic.
Check them out if you like: later Beatles, Pink Floyd."

"Rock bands often cite iconic mega-stars like the Beatles and Pink Floyd as influences, then wind up sounding exactly like them. But Elder Mason manages to take the vintage folk harmonies of the protest-rock era, the trippy guitar riffage, and all that other stuff that made the '70s great, and combine those ingredients into a really modern psychedelic folk sound that pays tribute to popular bands who've come before, but without excessive imitation. Sometimes you can hear the Floyd. Sometimes you can hear the Neil Young. But more often you hear Elder Mason."

WE ARE:
Elder Mason began on a four-track in a small bedroom in Seattle in 2006.
Disenchanted with his hometown of St. Louis, Missouri, J. Michael Jochum rented an Econoline, filling it with guitars, amps, organs, pianos… even some clothes, and made for then unknown Seattle. After getting a feel for the local scene, darting in and out of other bands, he began to write as he never had – there was some Beatles, some ELO, some Pink Floyd all married with contemporary influences like the Flaming Lips and Wilco.
All hail the power of the Internet!!
Craigslist was to thank for finding the right blend of musicians and personalities that now comprise the band. Matt Teske (guitar, vocals) joined the group after moving from Minnesota around the same time as Jochum. Kris Bulakowski (drums) came aboard after relocating from Connecticut and Joe Cable (bass) recently moved to Seattle via Kansas City. With Jochum manning the keyboards and vocals, Elder Mason set up shop in a basement in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle. The band has an epic, dense and lush quality, with blissful organs, raging fuzz guitars held together by bombastic drumming.
Their debut album, The Seclusionist speaks, has been recorded and will be mixed by Scott Colburn (Arcade Fire, Animal Collective, Feral Children, Hypatia Lake) and will be released at the tail end of the summer.
"The Revival" was chosen for a local compilation put together by the boys and girls over at Nadamucho.com, a Seattle based music and culture blog.
