Our debut album (Beautiful Insane/MCA Universal)
consisted of Ali mcKinnell, Nigel Nisbet, Paul Pridmore,
James Hayden and Steve Atkins. Alex Meadows joined us
before recording the 2nd album (In Here We Fall/ Arista).
We parted company with Jim before recording the 3rd album
(Wired For Dreaming/ Arista)...which has been released...available via our website
ELECTRASY 'music without industry'...we've (finally) released the 3rd album, and it's got great reviews...so we're well chuffed!...
Gigs are pretty rare at the moment (we're posting them all here on myspace, sometimes at very short notice)...much love from all of us in electrasy.x
Ali & Steve have played music together since school in Dorset,England -
oh shit, that was twenty years ago!! At the same time Nige, Paul and Jim were also going through teenage mental health issues in Wales...
Some years later and with a full patch of pubic hair Steve put out a free WANTED advert for bass player 'must be open minded'...Nige phoned and pretty much immediately started writing great songs.
The band gigged as much as possible playing various pubs with various drummers under various names (eg,Ruby,Crush,Vivid)...all on a tight budget.
The band needed a dedicated/solid drummer and hammond organ/rhodes player. Steve discussed options with Nige and it became obvious to invite Paul...at the first rehearsal things stepped up at least two gears. Jim happened to be living in the same house as Paul (in London) who also happened to play Hammond & Rhodes...'Electrasy' was formed from a mixture of 'Ecstasy' and 'Electric'. The band recorded a bunch of songs including 'Morning Afterglow' in PJ Harveys home near Bridport which lead to a major record deal with MCA/Universal. Approx £1,000,000 was totted up in recording, marketing, video making and touring the debut album 'Beautiful Insane' (1998). The album was released but funding stopped; stranded! MCA/Universal merged with Polygram and Electrasy eventually walked away.
After recording new material the band decided to drop their management. Nige and Steve met with Clive Davis (Arista) in the penthouse suite at the rather posh Dorchester Hotel in London. Ali eventually arrived from Scotland and headed straight for the drinks cabinet (bless him). Clive took pity and gave Electrasy a second chance.
Alex Meadows joined in on bass freeing up Nige to play second guitar...the band recorded & released the second album 'In Here We Fall' which started doing very well; unfortunately Clive was asked to leave Arista and everything grounded to a halt. Stranded again!
LA Reid eventually replaced Clive and asked Electrasy to record a third album ('wired for dreaming')...Sept 11th happened and the band got dropped in 2002...
well,...we're just enjoying playing music again...simple eh!
your band ment a lot to me going through my growing up period. I played the same stage as you when i was like 14yo or 15yod and have always wanted to be a succesful drummer in a big band...if only i knew what i did now about the music industry....
I clicked on your myspace page and it said like....1 play today!!!!
I played with you guys in my first serious band at 15yo...
You charted at 18 right with morning afterglow and then nothing....label dropped you.
Well i play drums in a band called switches, we charted at 61..dropped..signed to interscope for a couple years...dropped...!!!
So now...after viewing your page, have decided to knock this band stuff on the head because i just find it so so sad to see great bands do nothing like yourself...
I am a great drummer and have played drums for 15 years now but no matter how good you are, this doesnt matter does it...
Im giving it untill i am 27,i am 26 now to try and live the dream of being a drummer in a sucessful band...
If you guys couldn't do it then god knows who will...
Apart from all the pop artists which are Guaranteed record sales...use the same session drummers, or its all about who you know!! which means people like myself dont even get a look in....good agencies are hard to find...oh yeah i havent found one thats not offering cruise ship work!!!
All i have ever wanted to be is a well respected top drummer since i was 9 years old...
Now all i think is that i've wasted my life up untill the end of this year when i leave the dream behind sadly and try and figure out what to do with my life.
God knows why i wrote this mail, guess im coming to terms with....that, im never going to be that succesful drummer who i've always wanted to be.
Sad to see such great bands fail and which i've had long enough to decide i cant do it either.
Hi Guys, new website launched today designed to boost the pub industry and live music, literally just launched not one band or venue on there this minute.
hey guys i just wrote this for you..its about me accidentally finding your record 7 years ago
i stood silenced and saddened on the northside of chicago i felt beaten and battered a shitty frown scattered across my face..how did i find this place
alone on my own no one to lean on a hole in my soul my favorite pair of jeans on the end of the rope the candle burned out
i found you in the bottom of a used record bin ever since that day i'd say we've been friends i stood on the corner and screamed at the top of my lungs
i got through the day that night and that year and today I'm just living still alone with no fear my friends are the people that love and the ones that dont are the ones that dont know how to feel and i thank lucky stars that i found you that was the worst day of my life
Electrasy, my god, I love your "Morning Afterglow' very much! The melody and lyrics~ It also makes me think so much recently as something is happened...
