Electric Colony is the solo project of Toronto Canada based guitarist/composer Kris Summers. Eclectic experimental guitar driven industrial rock influenced by post punk/new wave and elektro rock bands like Joy Division, Wire & My Bloody Valentine. A continuing experimental process, seeking to explore the boundaries of repetitive extreme rhythm, melody and sonic textures, focussing on heavy guitars and spiritually centered vocals, all held steady on a solid foundation of industrial style percussion. All tracks are recorded, mixed and
produced digitally.
"The origin of music likely stems from natural sounds and rhythms: the human heartbeat, the songs of birds, the rustling of wind through trees, the thunder and sound of rain, the dripping of water in a cave, the crackle of a burning fire and the sounds of waves breaking on a beach or bubbles in a brook. Man-made music echoes these soundscapes using patterns, repetition and tonality."

People dancing in clubs and waltz-halls commonly go into trance-like states. Music, rhythm and repetition have a hypnotic effect that can lull people into following a pattern in unthinking ways."
"Repetition of the material of music plays a very important role in the composing of music and somewhat more than in other artistic media. If one looks at the component motives of any melody, the successive repetition of the motives becomes apparent. A melody tends to "wander" without repetition of its rhythmic and pitch components and repetition gives "identity" to musical materials and ideas. Repetition is also used in chord progressions and in patterns of dynamics and timbre. Whole phrases and sections of music often repeat."
