Moby @ Theater of Living Arts, Sunday, Sept. 20, 2009
Awesome night at the TLA when Moby rolled through last weekend, right from the first note of "Seated Night" rolling through the soundsystem. I don't believe he played Philly with a live band since the "Play" tour at the Electric Factory back in '99 or 2000. "Go" was the absolute highlight of the set as it was an intense version dedicated to "My old Philly rave friends Josh Wink and King Britt, and to anyone who has found themselves dancing alone at a warehouse or loft at 6am to this song." The band was tight and Moby showed plenty of range with his guitar playing. Moby always throws down intense dj sets, and proved once again he is a skilled guitar player and quite the showman when out from behind the decks and leading a band. Kelli Scarr & the other femal vocalist (I forget her name) were excellent choices and provided stellar vocals. The setlist drew heavily from the new album "Wait For Me" & from his most successful album "Play." Moby chatted up the audience between songs and seemed quite happy to be on the road playing the songs. He brought along an impressive lighting rig that set the right mood for the tunes and the acoustics in the room were damn near perfect. "Feeling So Real" for the closer was a great nightcap, and definitely had me flashing back to Tribal Gathering '95. A great way to spend a Sunday night on South Street...
