About me:
Although he may not look or act like it, Patrick as over two decades of experience in this great, and sometimes crazy business called filmmaking. With numerous TV Commercials, Music videos, Live Network, Company Promos, and Non-Profit films under his belt, Patrick has recently focused on long form story telling through Documentaries and Feature Filmmaking. Of course he still works on just about every genre of work you can throw his way.
In his earlier years, Patrick was recognized by RockAmerica as the first video artist to pioneer video "scratching". While employed as one of the first of the newly created positions of VJ's (Video Jock) from 1981-85 at the Minneapolis premier and legendary Rock Club/Danceteria FIRST AVENUE.? There, Patrick utilized experimental techniques and innovative methods in video editing, creating video wallpaper for the clubs huge video screen. It was at First Avenue that he first previewed his re-edited or manipulated versions of Princes 1999 and Little Red Corvette, which he had re-cut into elongated dance versions of the original videos while maintaining the songs original BPMs (beats per minute). This caught the eye of Prince during a visit to the club, which led to directing his first "live" Prince concert. This also was the beginning of a ten-year working relationship between the two artists. Highlights include: "Alphabet Street" (Music Video), "Sexy MF" (Music video-club version), and "Three Chain of Gold" (Funkumentary).
Back then, Patrick had directed several live concerts, as well as various directing, shooting and editing & projects for Prince & Paisley Park artist. Music Videos for other Paisley Park artists include: "Tweakin" for George Clinton and "Little Rock" for Eric Leeds.
Patrick also directed a number of live in-house concerts at the legendary venue for up and coming artists such as -Culture Club, The Cure, Motorhead, The Thompson Twins, The Time, Husker Du, The Suburbs...and many others.
It wasn't long until he began developing ideas and experimental concepts in directing and shooting. He soon began to pick up occasional freelance corporate/docu-promo jobs, which, along with numerous Prince gigs, were becoming increasingly frequent and keeping him busy for several years.
During this period he began directing and editing many national and international TV commercials for agencies and production companies based in the Twin Cities and across the country.
Several years with this genre of work acted as a bridge and financial buffer to experiment with other types of work, including directing and editing Electronic Press Kits (EPK's) for musicians, as well as a Reality series for the Fox Network and any other opportunity that presented itself.
His versatile approach to his work clearly reflects his personality or is it the other way around? From high profile corporate and influential Rock & Roll to delicate award winning storytelling. Patrick's talents now have been called upon all over the globe, including France, Italy, and Japan.
