The Road to the Isles - electric version dedicated to the late James Calder QC, conductor, who arranged for the Edinburgh Highland Reels and Strathspey Society, 1970's

MY THEATRE AND STORYTELLING with Scottish Andrew includes a number of products, Fringe shows, books, CD's and DVD's etc they have some wonderful contributions from many of the gifted people I have met on my journey. ............. Scottish folklore, mythology, history and culture have always fascinated me.
my Scottish pilgrimage began in 1969 as the Edinburgh Highland Reels and Strathspey Societys then youngest ever member and I played at all the fiddlers rallies in the Scottish concert halls such as the; Kelvin, Usher and Caird hall.
I have a fond memory as a youngster seeing all the battle-hardened kilted fiddle veterans come off the stage in a fast moving file at half time in the Albert hall in Perth, fiddle and bow clasped in their left hand whilst their right hand went down onto the long table offstage to snatch up the hundred or more white plastic cups full of whiskey as they strode past as if marathon runners grabbing the water of life on the home stretch and then the white cups rolling and bouncing around the floor having missed the bin.
From there in the 80’s and 90’s there was Simon and Lynn of Hopscotch a primarily English button box ceilidh band, and various folk trios and quartets, e.g. Cauther Fair and Jacouse the UN music club in Vienna and stints in various ceilidh and function bands, European Tours with the folk rock group THE FIFE and I wrote and composed on several theatre shows with my Solan Theatre Company founded in 1984 playing at the Edinburgh Fringe a few times, recorded etc - and finally in the second millennium I play with the Wild Geese Ceilidh Band and am also a story teller, dance caller and tour guide.
I guess that makes me an all-round Ceilidh artist in the traditional meaning of Ceilidh - which is; a multimedia free form Scottish community party entertainer.
our concert trio and scottish andrew has influences in:
folk, folk rock, medieval, jazz, world fusion, latin, scottish dance, electronica ...
I present all the story, tourism and myth, invention and facets of what it is to be Scottish but I am constantly reminded that I amount to nothing without people and that it is only by the labours of my brothers and sisters that I am still on the road !!
scottish andrew brings the spirit of troubadour scotland to a stage near you
the wandering bards keepers of folk myth and tellers of tales, dancer of dances, weavers of mystical metaphysics and players of electronic tunes ...
Well, I'm 1/2 rusian and the rest is Irish and Scot and Welch...so, I was close to my grandmother who was a Campbell and she always sang me a song when I was young that I remember! It went..." bayou ba-by bu-ntin dady's gone a huntin'... to get that baby rabit skin to wrap that baby's buntin in..." I'm not sure of the rest of the song, can you help me with its Scot or Irish origin"?? I care more for my Scot descent than any other for some reason...I know not why--so, I'm hoping it is of Scot origin..but what will be will be....I just need to know....The Scot stuff just speaks to me the most...It touches me the most.. I guess! Thanks for your help! Lu
