Growing up in rural North Alabama, brothers Johnathan and Christopher Cunningham came from a tight-knit family that was awash with music. From their mother's love of late 70's arena rock and their father's insistence on singer-songwriter types, to high school band and the Alabama music-scene influence, the brothers were left with an eclectic ear for music.
A native of Valdosta, Georgia, Walker Sloan grew up playing whatever he could lay his hands on in any band he could start up with his friends. Walker was heavily influenced by the music he would discover with these friends, and it was these influences that would ultimately shape the style of the Electric Veltens. His one, long-standing goal is to make music as sweet as the nectar his mother calls sweet tea.
By 2005, Johnathan, and Walker each had ended up in Montgomery, Alabama. It was here that Walker and Johnathan met and, together, began writing catchy pop tunes.
In late 2007, Christopher, Johnathan, and Walker moved into a house together to work on developing their sound as a band. It was in this environment that the Electric Veltens was born.
In 2009, the Veltens added Andrew "Oh so Flandy" Paul to their lineup. Andrew comes from a background steeped in music, and has played many instruments through the years. He first played with Johnathan in the duo A Bicycle Built for Two, and later moved on to play bass for Latin for Truth. Easily the best musician in the group, Andrew hopes to inspire flowers to grow, and the sun to shine.
With each member of the Electric Veltens able to play multiple instruments, the group often puts a unique grouping of sounds together to form one song. Heavily influenced by the likes of the Beach Boys, Mates of State, Belle and Sebastian, and other pop-powerhouses, the sound and purpose of the Electric Veltens is for the audience to share in the fun that is behind the music, through the music.
So keep an ear out for new songs and an eye out for shows near you to support the Electric Veltens!
