Electronic SubSouth is not a band, dj, musician, promoter, booking agent, venue or record label. We do not put on raves or parties, nor are we interested in placating djs' egos. We do not accept contracts, meet rider specifications, or agree to guarantees.
Electronic SubSouth is an ideal, advocating the need to further the organization and sustainment of a thriving live electronic music movement throughout Florida.
The purpose of the Electronic SubSouth events are to showcase the different types of beat-oriented melodic compositional electronic music. Genres of interest are Big Beat, Bliss-Out, Chiptune, Cold Wave, Drill 'N' Bass, EBM, Electroclash, Electropunk, IDM, Industrial, Minimal Wave, New Wave, Nu-Electro, Synthpop, and/or Weirdoid Electronica. Bands that use mainly electronic instruments, and performance/image-based acts are what we're focused on.
Electronic SubSouth is generally steering clear of AutoTune Powerpop, guitar-heavy Bliss-Out, Dance/Club, Darkwave, DJs, Dub, Emotronica, Glitch-Hop, House, guitar-heavy Industrial, rolling drumline/cymbal crash-heavy MicroGoth/EBM/Trance Industrial, mc and/or etherial vocals-laden Jungle/Drum 'N' Bass, Musique Concrete, Nerdcore, improvised Noise, Nu Metal, anything with the word "Progressive" in it, R&B, Stompy, mindless repetitive Techno, Trance, and acts that use mainly traditional Rock instruments (ie: if your band has one or more guitarists, with keyboards as a rhythm or backing instrument, you are not an electronic or Synthpop band). Those scenes are already well-established and we desperately want something new here in Florida.
These shows are organized under the name of Electronic SubSouth (ESS). "SubSouth" refers to Florida mainly, being that we are below the "South" and becoming a much different state than any above us. Miami and the South Florida area seem too far away and exclusive (sadly, they rarely ever share their scene with the rest of Florida), so we're focusing on acts from the panhandle all the way down through Venice across to Port St. Lucie.
The future goal of Electronic SubSouth is to eventually create enough interest here in electronic music that the local promoters and venues will once again be willing to bring in national and international electronic music acts. We additionally want to encourage electronic acts to experiment with being more "visual" and "entertaining".
