Originally started in 1992 as a "project" at the Art Institute of Seattle. Portland, Oregon based Elemental Records quickly gained notoriety for the releases of the NorthWest UnGrunge, and NorthWest PostGrunge compilations. Uniting up-and-coming bands from Idaho, Washington, and Oregon - such as Black Happy, Cherry Poppin' Daddies, Medicine Hat, Nero's Rome, Built To Spill, Jolly Mon, Sweaty Nipples, and Floater- just to name a few.
Elemental Records soon became a buzz word in the Underground Indie music scene.
Floater received nominations to the preliminary level of the Grammy's from NARAS (National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences) in 1995 under Best Rock Performance for "Sink" and in 1996 under Best Alternative Performance for "Glyph." (Prelims are determined by nominations from the NARAS members).
1999 was a year of transition, under new ownership and fresh enthusiasm, Elemental scaled down its roster, and forged ahead- releasing 7 new albums in 5 years, and distributing a host of local Portland/ Seattle bands.
"Stone By Stone" Floater's new CD was released on Halloween 10/31/2006, and also includes a DVD behind the scenes look into Floater in the studio, live performances, fans, and band interviews.
Just checking in, and thank you for supporting LID music. We hope you enjoy it. We are heading into the studio to record more tunes, then we will be hitting the road. Stay tuned!! LID
Ive been there since the beginning. I watched the band get mis-managed and suffered with the band through numerous sets without hearing Thin Skin because Rob's "screwdriver" bass was in disrepair. Those were the dark years and then I got to watch the band get saved by 2 amazing people Cassandra and Aaron. I remember meeting them at El Corazon (re: Off Ramp, Sub Zero, Graceland, etc) many many years ago. Great people, Great label. Thank You for saving my favorite band back then and not giving up on them today!
Thanks for everything Elemental, it's great to see a lable the supports there bands as much as you clearly do, I wish all label could live up to your example!
Thank you Cassandra for believing in Floater! Wonderful new album, love love love the songs and the dvd!
Your one of the greatest! much love and peace... ~Tawnja
oh fuck all, life has me moving from the glorious land of Floater to Arizona, Don't forget to drag bands to Mesa! I'll be someplace not getting my ass kicked in the mosh pit, screaming my lungs out "play CRAWL INTO YOU"!. Umm, do they ever play that live?
(Floater, Floater, Floater, Floater, Floater) "Good evening, ladies and gentlemen."
"Tonight I shall talk to you about glorious conformity...
about the delight and the ultimate pleasure of our unified society."
