TE'A PROJECT EPISODE 1 "FINDING THE STORY"
Actress, singer, songwriter, playwright and dancer Crystal Quallo also known as Elena Chime, was born and raised in Queens, New York. Performing since elementary school she has always had a love for the arts and for expression. Elena Chime found the arts as a way to lose her inhibitions. As an all around entertainer she has been professionally performing for more than 10 years. Due to a troubled childhood she never did fulfill her opportunity to attend the Julliard School as a flutist but was able to complete her schooling at the Academy for the Intellectually Gifted. In attempting to cope and escape the rigors of a more than average adolescent life, she began to write poetry. The poetry would turn into melodies; the melodies would soon turn into songs. With a style likened to Pinks early works and a look likened to Aaliyah, Chime's songs and words touch on love, heartbreak, freeing oneself and independence. She credits the aforementioned as well as Mary J. Blige and Mariah Carey, as some of her biggest influences.
For the past 10 years you could find Elena Chime on stage, in front of the camera, behind the scenes, as well as in your NYC public schools. She lent her talents for 3 years as a member of the Spark Peer Players. Spark was a New York City Board of Education theater program that dealt with teen issues before closing its doors. She later joined The NiteStar Program in 2004, which is a non-profit organization that performs shows for at risk inner-city adolescents, teens and young adults. During this time she performed in and around New York City, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Jersey as well as upstate New York. She stayed with NiteStar for 3 years and served as a mentor actor for 1 year. Some of her more memorable shows were for the Housing Authority of New York City, Smith College, St. John the Divine on World AIDS Day of 2005, and the United Nations on World AIDS Day of 2006. She has also performed for "Make Music New York" sponsored by Time Out magazine in celebration of the 1st day of summer. Today she performs for different companies including Zinc Professional Consultants, which helps teach life skills through theater to collegiate as well as professional WNBA, NBA and NFL athletes. This has taken her from New York to Baltimore and different areas in Florida.
Her passion is in creativity, the stage and helping to promote change and positivity within society. Chime is now a member of what is known as the TE’A Company. TE’A which stands for theatre, engagement and action, consists of 5 actors/ activists that write and perform works to help promote peace within the community. The TE’A project as it is called, has written their first piece “Under The Veil,” which has led her to perform at Pace University here in New York, George Mason University in Virginia, George Washington University in D. C., as well as many other arenas this past year.
Elena Chime is a true creator, thinker and lover. “I care about society, especially children. I feel my purpose in life is to help people and evoking emotion in my audience whether it be to cry or laugh is priceless.” Accompanied by a fascination with the body & science she is now in school to pursue a career in medicine. “Any project that helps spread awareness, promotes positive change and involves my passions... is a dream come true. I know that life is what you make it & I am here to fulfill my purpose in it." Today, no longer that young shy girl, Elena Chime is continuing her pursuit of her passions, which lie in music, acting, helping society and medicine.
