El Espiritu d'Esteban was founded by Esteban Jinco. Jinco started out as a solo act popular in the club scene in the inner city of Avant, Brazil, performing his unique blend of bass playing, sound sculpture and vocal rumblings, under the stage name of "El Baixista Sagrado".
He gradually began calling on the talents of friends and other local performers.
Jinco's drinking buddy Victor Panchawa was keen to join in with him, and once one additional member was recruited, the rest just fell into place.
Eduardo "Sietenta Veses Siete" Caballero, an old flatmate of Panchawa and Jinco joined to provide rapping and loops, and Jose "Benny" Rodrigues (a regular session player for many local Avant bands) brought his guitar presence.
After some time playing successful gigs and writing some promising material, El Espiritu d'Esteban recruited two new members to fill out their sound; Fernando Chadi, a relative newcomer to the scene, but full of potential, brought his keyboard skills, and Estella de los Chaves brought in for additional vocals, cello, and various other skills. Estella had been a well known local performance artist, combining her cello and singing skills with her also unique painting abilities.
Twenty-one days after the completion of their acclaimed second album, all six members of El Espiritu d'Esteban visited a circus outside Rio De Janiero.
They were never seen again.
