Elfina Luk was born and raised in Vancouver, BC. She is an actress, singer and songwriter. She has always enjoyed being in front of cameras and found her way into the film and television world through her experience in the broadcasting industry.
In 2004, after her closest Uncle Mike passed away right before her graduation and birthday, her dedication to him was through her first original full length song written for him: Just Breathe. This was played at his service. After this experience, Elfina began to truly live life with the realization that life really is short and you must live your dream. This began Elfina's journey of writing and composing songs. In her playlist: Just Breathe Remix was collaborated with teflonbuddha. She hopes to work with other great artists and musicians to create music and art to feed thy soul.
After Elfina began her musical journey, her acting career soon followed in 2005. Elfina immediately landed a recurring role in Canadian’s own Da Vinci’s City Hall alongside American actor and director Charles Martin Smith. She quickly began landing roles in big productions like Smallville, The L Word and Blade: The Series and shared some screen time in feature films alongside Linda Hamilton in “Home By Christmas” and Rena Sofer in “The Secret of Hidden Lake.”
Keeping busy with her acting career, Elfina continues to sing and compose her own music with her guitar. She has recently recorded two original songs in the studio and has plans to be in the studio again in the near future.
Elfina enjoys spending time with her Yellow Labrador Retriever named Ginger. She also has her Advanced Reiki Certificate and says her involvement with Reiki (a Japanese Healing Technique) helps her stay grounded and focused.
Elfina is certified in stage combats using sword, quarterstaff and unarmed techniques. Having always been active in sports growing up, she continues to expand her physical abilities through different forms of activities. She has spent time pole dancing and training in martial arts. Elfina believes that an actor can never have enough skills.
With a Chinese background, Elfina is fluent in both Cantonese and Mandarin. She has starred in an independent short called “Snakehead” in a Mandarin speaking role.
Elfina’s career in 2008 was off to a great start with the release of a sci-fi feature film called "Yeti" that she had a supporting role in. She also booked a recurring principal role as “Steffi Chow” on the second season of Global’s Canadian show “The Guard.” During the filming of “The Guard,” Elfina was also busy as the female lead in an independent feature called “The Helix,” scheduled to be released by Summer 2009.
Season two of “The Guard” is due to air in March, 2009 on Global at 8pm. Check your local listings.
Elfina says:
“I am extremely grateful and fortunate to have a career that allows me to honor my creativity. To connect to one person through a character or a song, and help them feel less alone in their experiences, that is the ultimate goal with my art. Of course, it’s also nice to be able to make people laugh.”
