Promo Interprétation
Interprétation is a rendering to the world of what has been taken, absorbed from it and transformed, as in the photosynthesis process. The result of this representation is spellbinding and terrible at the same time. The warm and often bright tones of the album do not hide the idea of disillusion, of misrepresentation, difficulty in communication, of the untrustworthiness of the world and its ways and, more painfully, of close relationships. But the deep meaning of the album goes beyond this: the hope of “bottles dancing tango in the rapids”, the nearly entirely feminine universe of this picture, the energy of the Amazon “Calamity Babe”/Jane, and the possibility, as terrible as it may seem, to decide whether to live, and, eventually, how, still remain.
In the fashion of the best traditional international folk, Eli Natali’s songs are all born out of the pure merging of her guitar with her voice. There are, however, many styles influencing this singer-songwriter’s different tracks, going from swing all the way to blues. In fact, although the main instruments backing her voice are the guitar, bass and drums, again and again, different instruments join in to better convey the multiple emotions found in her songs, expressed through the intensity of her lyrics. Eli writes, sliding with ease from English into French and carefully picking sounds and language, mixing them to move the listeners and carry them through intense and multicoloured musical universes.
Elisa Nancy Natali was born in 1981 in Sydney and grew up between Australia, Geneva, London and Rome. Through her Italian father, British mother and teenage years spent in French speaking countries she gained fluency in the above three languages. She started playing the guitar at the age of 13 and was a songwriter from the beginning! In 1999 she moved to Rome, Italy to undertake her undergraduate studies and played her songs with the band RadioMary Wine Club. In 2006 she decided to go solo, took up singing lessons with Paola Fortini at Percento Music School and by 2007 got signed with Funkyjuice label. She consequently has recorded the 11 tracks that have become her first album “Interprétation”. This is how she has teamed up with bass guitar player Cristina Patrizi (ex “La Menade”) and drummer Francesca Lupi to make the arrangements and record the songs.
Of note among her other musical endeavours, she worked with Nicolas Verardi on a franco-italian project, recorded vocals for Lele Lunadei on his EP coming out soon, and also lent her voice to the english version of the short film “Ultraviolet” directed by Valentina Bertuzzi (2006). She is currently working with Roby J. Colella on an electronic project.---------------------------------------Her current live set is with:
