Elin is from the little sami village Karasjok, up north in Norway. As a child she was often participating in NRK Sami Radios children’s programs and TV-shows. Since she was a child she has written poems and songlyrics. She moved from her hometown Karasjok at the age of 16 to study music. After many years away from home, her homesickness drove her to write songs in her mothers language sami.
This led her participating the sami song contest Hei Lola in 2004 where she sang her own song Čahppes stuorra eatnamis. Audience reacted very enthusiastically to her music and encouraged her to continue making music. A well known sami producer Bernt Mikkel Haglund began co-working with Elin on a CD and a band. In august 2005 her first release Lahka EP got the nearly maximum points – 5 of 6 - in Finnmark Dagblad critics. Her music was described as an unique combination of indie rock and Elin’s own intensive singing style with a hint of mystical and traditional elements. The lyrics told about everyday life of a modern citysami girl in a very innovative and surprising but deeply metaphoric way. Sami music is mostly about the love for nature, so her melancholic writing made her different. Ever since the release she has played a number of concerts around Norway.
After this release she got in touch with Norwegian producer Ole Jørn Myklebust who is now producing her debut album that will be out in the end of 2008. Since Lahka EP Elin’s music has evolved a lot towards more mystical and modern sound while simultaneously increasing the presence of traditional elements, and it’s bearing fruit: March 2008 she won the biggest annual sami song contest Sámi Grand Prix with the song Áibbas Jaska she had composed with Ole Jørn. Her performance was described as superior. She combined the music with her dancing talent in the performance giving the song even more depth and soulful feeling.
Dear friends, As long as this comment might be (sorry...) but this is very important. There will be a parole hearing for Leonard on July 28, 2009. This is a critical time and I please all of my friends to take care and act or send the informations to someone who could help. This comes from the bottom of my heart and I send out all my love to you. Leonard has big health problems as you could read in the bulletins the last days and does not get the medical help he needs in prison.
