Elipse Studio is a new recording studio in Carliol Sq in Newcastle. Designed and built by musicians, for musicians. With over fifty years of musical history, including bands like the Animals, Lindisfarne and more recently Maximo Park and Nolberto Solano's salsa band. it operates a very "physical" ethos in that maximum use will be made of the space, acoustic properties of the various parts of the live room and type and placement of mics, etc. If something can be done "for real" as opposed to virtually, then it shall be so - for example, while Elipse has the usual ability to apply outboard reverb to a sound, they have also constructed a "reverb corridor" in the building which can be altered to apply a range of actual reverberating soundwaves.
Elipse aims to get the maximum out of the original recording and will encourage "live" group performance to capture that all important feel. To that end, Elipse boasts a 24 foot by 27 foot live room with excellent acoustics for it's purpose. Elipse also aims to attract not just bands, but a wide range of musical styles, especially those for whom live performance and large groups of people are vital (percussion groups for instance)
