The video below shows some 'behind the scenes' shots of me and my band in the studio recording my debut album - yet to be released! As you can see in the first scene, I'm 8 and a half months pregnant with my beautiful daughter Liya! The Band: Jo Caleb (guitar), Ivo Neame (piano), Larry Bartley (bass), Troy Miller (drums) and Femi Temowo (Mr. Producer!!). After the 5min mark there's a clip of me singing 'Thou Swell'.
Elisa spent many of her early years in Barbados. When she came to London, she began listening to Jazz and fell in love with vocalists such as Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday.
Music had primarily always been for enjoyment. During college, she sang in a gospel group, joined the college choir, sang backing vocals and spent much of her time at college listening to musicians when she should have been studying English, Psychology and Sociology!! She later went on to study Law at Sheffield University.
Not content with a legal career, she began working with the Jo Caleb trio in 2000, booking them into various venues and clubs primarily as a manager and agent. Her exposure to the Jazz Scene, however, was about to take a new turn in summer 2005 when prompted to perform jazz professionally rather than merely enjoying it as a listener.
Since Elisa's love for singing became her profession, she has performed in Paris, Moscow, Belgium, Barbados and numerous venues across London and has performed with such artists as Soweto Kinch, Jim Mullen, Tony Kofi, Seb Rochford, Jo Caleb, Gary Husband, Stan Sulzmann, Robert Mitchell, Gareth Lockrane, Martin Speake, Phil Robson, Alec Dankworth, Malcolm Creese, Asaf Sirkis, Femi Temowo, Mike Outram, Troy Miller, Mike Mondesir, Mike Gorman, Mornington Lockett and many others.
