Secody's style showcases compositions with some Navajo tradition, a touch of round dance flavor, and the sweet harmonies of the Native American Church, all with a contemporary blend.
Wild mustangs ran the open deserts of northern Arizona and the healing scent of wet desert rain surrounded the childhood of Eli Secody. As a young boy, Eli’s grandmother taught and giggled at Secody’s first Native chants in the Navajo tradition and Native American Church melodies. Later, in high school Eli explored his traditional voice with Native American Church songs, in the ceremonies, walking home from school, after
the basketball game, at work, and at bedtime. During college basketball, Secody’s singing carried him through the tough times of his education and sport. It was his comfort and serenity.
After encouraging co-workers telling Eli to record a professional recording, Secody got his big break. Secody Records was born in the summer of 2001, and Eli Secody’s first professional recording; Shinaana harmonized Native American Church Songs, was a fresh breathe into the cool crisp summer morning. Creating his path with his prayers and determination, Secody has experienced the struggles and joys of the Native American music market. Tears of joy were celebrated when Eli won the “Best Male Artist” award
at the 2005 Native American Music Awards.
Secody took a break from music and took a step back from it and looked at it, like an art piece he was creating. Two years later, Secody got his Visual Communications Degree. Eli applies his photography and graphic design talent to his Native American music career. During the same year, Secody was gifted a hand drum from known drum maker Mark Barfoot, his was encouraged and blessed to continue his Native Music career. In 2006, Eli added Running In Beauty Clothing line for Native American men and women to wear with strength and positivity.
Eli Secody pulls out two hand drum music albums; In 2006, Rhythm of a Songmaker – a beginning of a new chapter; then in 2008, Sunrise Love – happiness with wifey over coffee. The album Rhythm of a Songmaker was nominated at two award shows; The 2007 NAMMYS and 2007 ISMA Awards. In 2008 the new hand drum album Sunrise Love was released.
Eli and his wife showcase the Runway Beauty Native America Calendar, and it was release throughout Indian country, in 2007. Runway Beauty is a hand drum song from Eli’s release Rhythm of a Songmaker, inspiring to walk in beauty. After winning the “Best Male Artist” and several nominations afterwards, Eli felt like giving back and opening up opportunities to Native American Women to be featured in the RBNA Calendar. The 2008 RBNA Calendar promoted Cancer awareness among Native American Women and the 2009 RBNA Calendar promoted encouraging words of health and fitness to Native Americans. Becoming a spokesperson for SAY Magazine is Eli Secody’s new thing.
