Sounds Like
elixir [i-liks'-eh] noun
a liquid that would supposedly make people able to go on living forever, or a substance that would turn the cheaper metals into gold, or a cheap substance that makes middle-aged musicians rock on into their golden years!
Keith Roland – Drums and Vocals: Mad Doctor Roland has been playing the same set of Slingerland and Pearl drums since 1968. Some say he is nostalgic for vintage equipment. We think he’s just cheap. His first professional (read: “paying”) gig was at the age of 18 and he has never looked back. Keith’s vocal stylings are influenced by Eric Clapton and Bob Seger, while his percussionist inspiration is Ginger Baker. Roland is an avid gardener. To finance his horticulture habit, Keith has been dabbling as a physician since 1981. You’d think a doctor could afford a new drum set.
Michele Eischeid – Keyboard and Vocals: Michele has been singing since she could talk. She was active in music from junior high through college, including ensembles, swing choirs, and musical theater. She enjoys Carole King, Joni Mitchell, Sheryl Crow and Linda Ronstadt. We had no idea she could scream like Robert Palmer until we cut her loose one time; now there’s no turning back. She thoroughly rocks Elixir’s piano, all the while hoping that her piano students never find out she digs rock and roll. She plays a Kawai grand at home, but finds it to be a pain to lug to and from gigs.
Doug Eischeid -- Guitar and Saxophone: Doug is a “Jack of Many Instruments and Master of None.” He played guitar in secret for 29 years and has recently gotten back to the sax for the first time since high school. We hope it doesn’t show. He has always been influenced by Boots Randolph’s horn. Guitar inspiration comes from Eric Clapton, Mark Knopfler, and Eddie Van Halen. He has had a “thing” for Bonnie Raitt for some time (No one tell his wife Michele). Doug plays a Fender Stratocaster and a silver-plated Jupiter tenor sax.
Pat Conley -- Lead Guitar and Vocals: Yeah, we know: rock and roll lead guitar players invariably have long hair, tattoos and/or piercings and wear little if any shirt-like garments. Not so much Elixir’s newest member. We call him “Guitar Savant” because there is absolutely nothing he can not do with that Les Paul of his, despite his pleasant and upstanding citizen appearance. Listen and be awed! Pat also contributes his original song writing to Elixir’s mix of cover material. He doesn’t say much, though -- which can be a little good and a little not good. It's OK -- the rest of us tend to say too much.
Carol Moxley --Bass and Vocals: Carol's first gig was at age five on the piano at church. At age twelve, she taught herself to play rhythm guitar and joined her first band two years later. She studied classical guitar at TCU and subbed in with friends' college bands. After college, she lived the requisite garage band hell, playing parties, receptions and dives with various local rock bands. It was during this time she first picked up the bass guitar and fell in love. She’s still laying the grooves to this day, thumping her Yamaha TRB1004 4-string into submission with ease. Keep an eye on this gal during a gig -- if her eyes are closed while swaying to the music or she's jumping off the ground, things are going well.
Special thanks to Elixir friends Kathy Chruscielski, Mike Campbell and Jan Bolling for the photos!
