About me:
Originally Elizabeth Coffin... or Betsy... or Liz... Your choice just not Beth. Never bonded with that nickname. I was always creating something. That’s what only children do bond with they’re box of crayons, markers, pastels, paints...etc.
Luckily I grew up in a supportive family. And being an artist wasn’t thought of as being flighty. One characteristic I’m not. A misconception of many artists- flighty. If I were flighty I wouldn’t put in 12 hour days and obsess over the curve of a logo or the tone of a blue or green I’m using.
I always thought I would be a fashion designer then an industrial designer... My last year of college I pursued the idea of being Indiana Jones studying archeology and art history. But alas, that would take me to extreme climates. I’ve been to Mexico, I’ve been to Europe, etc... and I’m a true believer there’s no place like home. The bugs aren’t the sizes of cars, the smells aren’t noxious and I have my family... All the same reasons my clients ask why I’m not in NYC or some other large city. I visit and come back to Chautauqua, NY where you can see green grass, blue skies and escape. So I live in Jamestown, NY and use my computer to correspond to different countries in the studio in my home with my husband and yellow lab.
I started right out of college doing design work circa 1998... Not exciting design work. I started at Bush Industries 2 minutes from my parent’s home, designing office space layouts. Then I progressed to American Locker where they gave me the chance to study web design while I was their advertising specialist. The strange thing all through high-school thru college I despised computers?? Yes, it’s true. I refused to email until 1997. And now, I normally have to be dragged out of my studio. I’m waiting for carpel tunnel to set in?
In 2005 ALSS moved their corporate office to Grapevine, TX. And if you made it this far you know how I feel about large city’s. So I was content to do freelance for them and with their support I started my own business. Without the floods, tornados and high temperatures.
