Harpist, singer, and multi-instrumentalist ELIZABETH NICHOLSON is at the vanguard of a new generation of Celtic musicians. Considered among the top American interpreters of Irish traditional music for harp, her studies have also included classical, Paraguayan, and mediaeval harp, and she has stretched the traditional boundaries of the instrument into rock music and country blues. Her current ensembles include the five-piece Celtic/world music band Stringed Migration, the Celtic/classical trio the "Trio Rose and Thistle band," a Celtic/Americana duo with fiddler Bob Soper, and another -- called "Strawberry Rune" -- with Delta blues songster Lauren Sheehan.
Elizabeth's latest cd of traditional and traditional-inspired music, "Sink or Swim" (Waterbug Records) has been featured on Fiona Ritchie's bi-monthly Thistle & Shamrock podcast "Thistlepod" was one of Rich Warren's top picks on the iconic folk program "The Midnight Special," and was recently named "Folk Album of the Month" on KUNI (Iowa public radio/NPR). She also has 4 other cds available: an instrumental harp album entitled "The Lulling Hour," two albums of Celtic wedding music with "The Rose and Thistle Band", (appropriately titled "Celtic Wedding Music, Volumes One and Two") and a CD of Irish and Scottish traditional music (also with the "Rose and Thistle Band"), titled "The Young May Moon."
