My singing style has been influenced most recently by the voices of: Aynur Dogan, Le Mystere Des Voix Bulgares, Laura Nyro, Jeff Buckley, Aretha Franklin, Roberta Flack, Maria Callas, Stevie Wonder... and my vocal mentors, Svetla Stanilova and Tzvetanka Varimezova
Welcome to my page! I am an American musician, I received my BA in music at Mills College in Oakland, CA. I studied Bulgarian folk singing with Svetla Stanilova at the Academy of Music in Plovdiv, Bulgaria on a Fulbright grant for one year. During this time I performed with the Phillipopoly Folk Ensemble, and studied the tambura with Vladimir Vladimirov. In January 2009 I will begin to sing with KITKA Women's Vocal Ensemble in Oakland, California. Check out all of these artists on my friends list below!

I'm enjoying Oakland, as always! There have been massive fires in the central valley (and elsewhere) over the past few weeks, and the smoke from those fires have been making their way out here, making the air rather miserable.
I lived in Russia several years ago and played with a group that sounds a lot like the music you're doing in Bulgaria. I really miss working with them. Enjoy it while you can!
