   About Elizabeth St.
I believe that music is a universal language and has always had quite a powerful impact for me throughout my life. I've loved music for as long as I can remember and I can't tell you how many times I would perform to an imaginary audience as a child in my room. Okay, so I still do that once in a while. When I grew up and moved to NYC, I was still writing songs, and singing with bands. Anytime something really got to me, I would write about it. So, when I became a mom an entire new world of emotion and music opened up to me. I never thought of becoming a children's artist because my association with music for kids has always been Sesame Street, Barney, The Wiggles etc.... We, as a family would play music that we all liked to listen to. Many times the kids would sing The White Stripes, The Strokes, The Shins, Jack Johnson and the list goes on. Meanwhile my children were getting a bit older and going to school which brought about some pretty important, sometimes intense, sometimes very funny issues. One day my son came home from Kindergarten and was heart heavy because a friend didn't want to be his friend anymore. I felt so helpless, and just wanted to make it better for him in any way I could so I started writing. When I couldn't get him to eat anything besides bread and cheese, my husband and I would encourage him to try new things and he decided that the new thing he would try was a dragon, he would "just try it to see" if he liked it and I started writing. When I wanted them to know in no uncertain terms that I am here for them no matter what, I wrote a song. These situations and songs all turned into my album "Different". It's an album for kids and parents, and even, possibly adolescent siblings as well. Song styles include folk, punk, blues and blue grass. Song topics range from empathy to picking your nose. Yes, picking your nose. Come on now, we all do it! The goal, was to let kids know that they are not alone, and to make them giggle a little at the same time. And, to bridge that gap between our music and theirs. Thanks for reading, hope you enjoy the music. Elizabeth Street - Different..
