You've probably heard her voice several times without realizing it was her. Eliza Jane has talked and sung to you from your TV set in the voices of most of the female characters on Comedy Central's hit animated series, "South Park" and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, among countless others. Now listen to her real voice, blended harmoniously with the best musicians she could find from coast to coast: The Barnyard Gypsies.
The Gypsies cover Joni and Patsy tunes in a hilarious exact impression of the great singers, and then break the songs down into their own high-stepping fiddle enhanced interpretations. They play everything from hobo music --akin to that of the late Jimmy Rodgers-- in harmonies reminiscent of the Carter Family, to a unique feminist interpretation of Charlie Daniels’ hit, “The Devil Went Down to Georgia.” James Wylder’s deep haunting vocals bring to mind Johnny Cash, and when combined with Eliza Jane’s Emmylou Harris–like soprano, floating over their syncopated picking patterns on the twelve string guitar, bluegrass mandolin, and gypsy violin, audiences have been known to keep the band up all night, kicking up their heels, and begging for more.
History: Eliza Jane has fronting rock bands since she was sixteen. Her first was "IT'S MY PARTY!" a 60's style girl band that toured Rochester, NY. At UCLA, she played violin in "Gefilte Fuck," LA's favorite Jewish punk band. "Blue Girl" was her underground operatic electronica Burning Man science fiction rock opera about the return of the goddess, which won "Best of LA" in 2000, and then she sang for Electric Skychurch in Miami, recorded an album with country trio, "Honeypig," had a two week bluegrass stint with the Topanga Mountain Tree-O, played fiddle & sang with Old Bull, and just got off of a tour of the Caribbean, playing twin fiddles with The Fiddler, Dick Solberg, and The Sun Mountain Band. Now for the first time, she is appearing simply as Eliza Jane, performing and recording her own middle-eastern/ bluegrass acoustic rock solo music. Known in the voice-over & animation world as "The Woman of a Thousand Voices," more about Eliza Jane can be found at www.elizajane.com.
