Bo Diddley meets the monster.....who is jammin' with Chuck Berry....who is big on Lil' Richard....who is slimmin' down with Fats Domino....who is puttin' black suede shoes on Bootsy....who is a rock star monster of a doll baby baba!
The legacy left by rock-n-roll icon Bo Diddley is no doubt one for the record, but his offspring, sisters Tammi Diddley (skins & vox) and Bodetta (ivories & vox), are continuing in their father's footsteps by bringing music to the people. "That's all my daddy wanted to do" said daughter Bodetta. "My daddy was commited to the idea that we are all created equal and deserve a chance to prove our worth in society, no matter how rich or poor, Black or White, short or tall, anyone can stand tall if that's what you want."-------
Once again, Offspring is ready to share some of that eponymous "Diddley beat" at concert venues around the world.-------
Sisters Bodetta & Tammi D. Diddley were born in Washington, D. C. in 1961 and 1962...in the house where the world's very first home studio was based and where 'Bo Diddley Is A Gunslinger' was recorded. Diddley daddy didn't waste anytime recruiting the "yungins" as footsoldiers in his beat brigade. The first step was putting lil' Terri on a full sized Hammond B3 and lil' Tammi on a full sized Slingerland drum kit.-------
The second step was to train nem yungins in the ways of how to "fumolagate" the beat.-------
Once Diddley "diddled" with that, the girls needed a name and The Diddley Darlings were born.-------
Natural born entertainers, both girls performed with their dad on many occasions. In 1980, the girls formed Offspring and began writing music, and recruiting musicians to fill positions in the band.-------
In 1980, after Terri saw Scott Free opening for Teddy Pendergrass & Stephanie Mills on the Love TKO Tour, she knew he had a stage presence that was similar to her dad's. She burst into the Ecstasy dressing room and yelled out "You're gonna be my guitar player!" and all eyes in the room centered on Scott, who was equally surprised. That same year, the girls enlisted Ron Haughbrook on bass after they saw his performance with a power trio in Gainesville, Florida.
Shortly thereafter, the "fellas" moved to the BoKay Ranch in Hawthorne, Florida and Offspring started to perform with Bo soon after. In 1983, the band recorded the album 'Ain't It Good To Be Free' in Atlanta, Georgia and toured in support. They toured throughout Europe and the USA with Bo from 1981-1985. -----
Scott co wrote the music for "Bo You Don't Know Diddley" for NIKE, recording the guitar track at Westlake Audio in Hollywood and playing drums in the commercial with Bo and Bo Jackson. He was also responsible for negotiating Bo's Crate Amplifier and Klipsch speaker promos to keep the icon "in the mix." ------Bo was a vital force in music till the end and made every effort to stay present on the contemporary music scene. Scott had the pleasure of uniting Bo with two artists he had great respect for - Parliament-Funkadelic keyboard genius, Bernie Worrell, and orator, radio-personality and Public Enemy co founder Chuck D who were equally honored to work with Bo on 'Wreck It' ------Scott produced a number of Bo's most satisfying albums, 'Living Legend' (New Rose) 1989, 'Breakin' Thru The B.S.' (Triple X) 1990 and 'This Should Not Be' (Triple X) 1992, which were recorded at Bo's own studios in Archer, Florida and Albuquerque, New Mexico. Scott also recorded Bo on his laptop a couple of weeks before Bo suffered the stroke and played with Bo at home after he suffered the stroke. ----- Tammi and Terri also continued to play and record with Bo until his stroke.-------
"Offspring will perform tribute shows to honor "The Originator" as long as we have life."------ For booking contact: Fran Mae at ximentmix - nscon@msn.com
One day weāre gonna stand before God and he is going to ask two questions. The first question is, "What did you do with my Son Jesus Christ?" Not "What religion were you?" Not what denomination, not what background, where did you go to church. We were created for a relationship, not a religion--not rituals, not rules, not regulations. Then the second question is, "What did you do with what you were given?"
