   Elleda's Blurbs
About me:

I am a writer and photographer. I have my own photography business, Astoria Photografpix, I work at the local newspaper, The Daily Astorian, as an editorial assistant and editor/writer of the weekly In One Ear Column, blog when I have the time (Elleda's Blog), and write children's stories in my so-called "spare time."

I was born in a small oystering/lobstering village on Long Island Sound in Connecticut, and being able to be near the sea has pretty much driven my life.

After 22 long years in Los Angeles, I now live in the Pacific Northwest in another fishing town, Astoria, Oregon. It's as far north and west as you can go in Oregon without falling into the ocean.

Being near the mouth of the Columbia River (4.1 miles wide at this point) we can see the Pacific Ocean and the ships coming in from the kitchen windows. It still amazes me every time I walk into the kitchen and see the incredible view overlooking the town, river and sea through the wall of windows.

There are two lighthouses nearby, across the river on the Long Beach Peninsula in Washington, Cape Disappointment and North Head. I never get tired of visiting them. And then there's the mysterious Tillamook Head, aka "Terrible Tily" that is essentially inaccessible.

Who I'd like to meet:

Lots more people in my booth at the Astoria Sunday Market . It's always interesting to talk to people from all over the country as they browse through the local street markets.

The My Space editor we use to set up our pages the way we want them.  When we got on MS,  the editor version was 1.0  Now they have 2.0.   Much nice and easier to understand.

It would be fun to get together over beers with our new
laptops for show and tell.  I would like to see yours and
vise vera.  I went shooting yesterday out past the battery
and shot this beach pine.

I started using the new MS layout editor and changed the
bg in the process.  Check it out and tell me what you think.

Thanks for the reminder.  I need to do that too.  The mouse pad on mine has a scroll bar on the left and since I am looking at the screen and non the mouse pad, I am forever scrolling unintentially.   Otherwise, I am loving it.

Yes, it has Vista.  I already love it!!  Why did I listen to all those nay sayers?!  My old computers couldn't handle it anyway.  You are going to hate me, but guess what else it has - a 64 bit system.  PhotoShop CS2 should be fast on this system.  Now I can work with 16 bit picutures.

I will try to be there Sunday.  I will be working, but should be done in time to be there between 4 and 5.  Whoo Hoo!!  My neighbor downstairs is letting me use his connection until I can get back online again.  I had trouble staying connected at the coffee house this morning and he thinks it's because my laptop is soooo outdated.  He says both my computers are ancient.  So far I am happy with the new laptop.  WOW how things have changed in the last seven years!

The kitties need to roam, so think I will try opening the slider just enough for them to squeese through and keep the light off in th LR if I am not using the room. Are bats attracted by the light?

Finally figured out the bat problem. Walked into the LR last night and found Kaila playing with a live one, so they are coming in when the slider is open. I opened the slider wide open and and got the broom and gently guided it outdoors. Don't know what to do about this, since Kaila and Milo love to roam around on the roof during the night.

Thanks a bunch!! Someone commented on that pic and wondered what it was and I didn't know. Next time I see a beetle I don't recognise, I will use that site to find it.

I don't have a clue. Do you think a seagull could have dropped it on the roof? They drop all manner of other things on the roof - even pop cans.

Kaila brought me a gift yesterday. She came through the bathroom window from the roof with a bat corpse. Of course this freaked me out. I go off to the kitchen to find something to pick it up with and throw it into the black berry bushes. She had the thing under the rug when I got back to the bathroom. When I made it disappear, she looked so sad - like mommy why did you throw away the gift I got you.

If you have walked in the heart of the Green wood
and have bathed in the light of its living force
remember what you have felt;
and whenever you pass a tree
whether it stands alone in a wilderness of human making
or in the depth of woodland,
give a moment of your time to listen to its voice.
For in many parts of the land the trees are dying
only the hearts that know something of the true wisdom can save them. (Anon)

Hello Elleda, nice to meet you.

Si usted ha paseado por el centro del bosque verde
y se ha bañado en la luz de su fuerza viva
recuerde lo que usted ha sentido;
