Who I'd like to meet: The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) Center of the University of Michigan-Flint provides advocacy, support, outreach and a safe space for all lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people and allies.
The LGBT Center provides services and programming to assist all members of the UM-Flint community in developing awareness of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender concerns.
The Center offers periodicals, books, DVDs, general information, and trains facilitators for classes and groups.
The LGBT Center is staffed part-time. Many student volunteers keep the Center open as often as we can. We eat lunch and watch movies or have general discussions, usually about controversial events and theories, between classes. We would love to have you visit and introduce yourselves!
Volunteers are always welcome!

About FTM Book Vol. 1 FTM Book Vol 1: A Basic Introduction to Transman Life is an easy-to-understand, yet comprehensive primer on FTM issues such as:
What is an FTM? How do FTMs see themselves? Appearance Stages in Transition Surgeries Available Common Personal Histories Violence Discrimination Health Issues Counseling Relationships Common Legal Issues
We've worked hard to help create definitions that will help you talk about trans issues with others, including terms for body parts unique to the FTM and by naming the stages of transitioning. This book is great for anyone who who is having trouble understanding the lifestyle or choices of a transperson. When we first began dating, we were shocked that there was no one place that he (Aaron) could turn to show me (Crystal) "See, this explains what being an FTM means." We hope that this book will be a good start.
Best of all, when you order FTM Book Vol. 1: A Basic Introduction to Transman Life you can feel good knowing that sales of the book are being used to fund more research to help FTMs and their partners get through the challenges of their lives. This is a great book for youself and for anyone you know who could use a little more understanding. Also, you can help teach others about trans issues by donating copies to your local high schools, colleges, LGBT centers and libraries.
Seeking submissions for Postcard Project, Secret Gallery Exhibit- Opening October 16th
Our secrets play a profound role in our lives. What do you feel like you need to hide? What do you wish you could change? For many of us- hiding our sexual orientation or gender identity is still a burden on our souls. Others may be haunted by their past, or by feelings inside that society won't let them show.
Coming out with our secrets is the best way to accept ourselves and heal from our own guilt, shame and pain. And sharing them with others lets each of us know that no matter what we have been through, we are not alone.
This October Affirmations is celebrating Coming Out Week with a cathartic display of our most hidden human thoughts and fears. We invite you to share your deepest secrets (anonymously of course) in words, pictures or collages in the format of a 5x7 postcard. Decorate the front of this card and mail it back to us or drop it off in the Affirmations lobby. Selected postcards will be displayed in our October Secret Gallery Exhibit. All entries are anonymous and become property of Affirmations. For more info, contact Maureen Jones at mjones@goaffirmations.org.
Need some help creating your card? Come to our Secret Workshop on September 11th from 6:30-8:30pm
