    ellenmoriah's Interests
GeneralInterior design, culinary arts, fine arts, world affairs and politics, music, yoga, my grandsons, dry white wines, humor, and on-line bridge -- where you'll often find me in Yahoo's Social 1 Lounge.
MusicAll kinds. I grew up listening to my dad practicing jazz piano and music seeped into my soul. My dad is still the best jazz pianist I've ever heard. For more: http://rateyourmusic.com/~ellenmoriah
MoviesMy top 5: Annie Hall, Roxanne, Ishtar (I consider it an honor and privilege to be one of the few who recognize the brilliance of Elaine May in this movie, no matter how many people say they hate it); A New Leaf (also written by Elaine May); and My Fair Lady. Next in line would be The Music Man (with Robert Preston, of course).
TelevisionChris Matthews (MSNBC), The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Real Time with Bill Maher, Meet The Press (with Tim Russert), reruns of Northern Exposure (a rare treat), reruns of Frasier, many episodes (but not all) of Curb Your Enthusiasm, and several BBC comedies (Keeping Up Appearances, Are You Being Served, Fawlty Towers, and -- my favorite of these -- The Vicar of Dibley).
BooksAll Bertie and Jeeves novels (P.G. Wodehouse); anything written by Tom Robbins but especially "Still Life with Woodpecker" and "Skinny Legs and All"; "Mapp and Lucia" by E.F. Benson; every biography written by Joseph Ellis; each of Nick Hornby's books; and a charming book written by Bill Dare who, I think, has only written the one book. And far too many political books written by far too many insiders.
HeroesMy husband, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Mark Twain. And sometimes I've had to be heroic myself.

About me:

ellenmoriah isn't my real life name: it's my cybername, and a variation of my great great grandmother's real life name. I use it because I like the way it looks on screen and the way it sounds when you say it. And it reminds me of my mom. For some reason, I never capitalize the name, although, in general, I think you'll find I capitalize when need be.

I've been married to Mike since 1982, and I'm one of the lucky ones: we're happy together.

I also have a son who never ceases to amaze me. He and his wife have given me three of the sweetest grandsons in the world... and I'm completely unbiased about that :)

I'm a retired receptionist, typesetter, and secretary (in temporary employment agencies); a retired administrative assistant, legal assistant, paralegal, vice president of administration, and vice president of legal (the preceding in software companies); and I'm a retired creative director, artistic director, designer, copywriter, CEO and part owner of an advertising agency.

I'm happily retired, by the way.

Who I'd like to meet:

All people with happiness and peace in their hearts. And my husband, for dinner, always.

Yo Ro, how's it go? Which way the wind blow? Season's Greetings!!! Ho ho ho!!! Whoever heard of a skinny Santa!!! Mrs. Claus was an ENABLER to her husband's obesity problem!

Another thing about the old Rudolph Special, what was up with Kirby? I want to be a Dentist?? A Dentist!??? I think his dentist orientation was just a metaphor for "something else" different about him. Listen to the effeminate sound of his voice and tell me what YOU think!

Well, Happy Holidays!!!! I'll call you before Christmas to arrange a rendezvous.

Cool, thanks, that one's my favourite, too, although the colours have faded something awful. I'm leaving leather stains behind and going to paint now because it doesn't fade so much. Have I shown you the gourd lamp I made last week for the Fall Fair?
