Elliot Wolff was born in Oklahoma and grew up in the DC area. He attended the University of Maryland and was head of his physics class. He then decided to pursue his other passion: music. His first gig was with DC group Peaches and Herb as the Musical Director and Keyboardist on their world tour. He also toured with Chaka Kahn and other amazing musicians such as Frank Zappa.
He then moved to Los Angeles and started co-writing and co-producing with the legendary Freddie Perron and worked on Johnny Gill’s first album on Atlantic Records. Elliot co-wrote and co-produced the Top 10 R&B Billboard Hit “Super Love”.
After a few years working with Freddie Perron, Elliot helped sign new artists in Europe and the United States; including an artist he helped sign at Virgin Records. This led to Gemma Corfield and Paula Abdul hearing Elliot’s demo of “Straight Up”. Elliot was hired to produce two hit songs on Paula Abdul’s “Forever Your Girl” album.
After Paula Abdul’s first two singles failed to chart, radio station KMEL in San Francisco began playing the B-side of one of the singles, which featured the song Elliot wrote and produced, “Straight Up”.
“Straight Up” rose to the top of the charts becoming Elliot and Paula’s FIRST #1 hit, followed by Elliot’s song “Cold Hearted” also charting #1 on Billboard. "Straight Up" is considered by many to be Abdul's signature hit.
A massive string of hits followed shortly after. Elliot was hired to produce and write hit songs for high profile artists like Taylor Dayne, Dave Koz, A’me Lorrain, Jennifer Holliday, Gregg Tripp, Tommy Page, Deborah Gibson, Joey Lawrence, Atlantic Starr, Chynna Phillips, Color Me Badd, Alta Dustin, Tears for Fears, St. Paul Peterson, Carola, Stacey Piersa, The Corrs and even the legendary Aretha Franklin just to name a few.
Elliot was the recipient of the 1989 ASCAP Song of the Year award for the hit song “Straight Up”.
"Can't Fight Fate", Taylor Dayne’s second album featuring “Heart of Stone” written by Elliot Wolff, Gregg Tripp and Carolyn Bowden, sold over 2 million copies in the USA alone.
The Color Me Badd hit song, “The Earth, The Sun, The Rain” written by Elliot Wolff and Stacey Piersa became a popular air wave staple, and won a BMI award.
Elliot Wolff continues to write and produce hit songs and proves to be a powerful force in the music business.
