Ellis is a rising star in the independent music scene. With music that is described as “joyful, unpretentious modern folk”, Ellis continues to build attention at venues and festivals throughout the country with heart-felt songs that reflect her sincere graciousness, vibrant nature, and contagious sense of humor. You’ll quickly be drawn in by her warmth and real-life journeys as reflected in her songs.
A native of Texas, Ellis moved to Minneapolis at the age of 16, where she quickly built a local following that blossomed into a nationwide presence, with extensive touring and six albums released in the last twelve years. In addition to selling 35,000 copies of her CDs independently, Ellis has accrued a wealth of accomplishments including national songwriting honors and performances at the Philadelphia Folk Festival, Falcon Ridge Folk Festival, and the Rocky Mountain Folk Festival.
NEW ALBUM: BREAK THE SPELL
Ellis’ critically acclaimed sixth album was recorded with talented producer Ben Wisch. Highlighting her powerful clear vocals, skilled songwriting and catchy guitar rhythms, this beautiful recording is expected to greatly expand Ellis’ following. The songs are supported by well-placed additions from Duke Levine (guitars), Zev Katz (bass), and Joe Bonadio (drums) along with cameo appearances from Shawn Pelton (drums) and Jonatha Brooke (backing vocals).
Since being released in Feb 2008, Break The Spell has been selected at a TOP DIY Pick for the June 2008 issue of Performing Songwriter Magazine.
I saw that you will be at the song school in Lyons this year. I will see you there. I met you at the Clear Creek Festival in 2007. I think you played my guitar at the feast. That festival was too fun.
So I am sittin at the airport in Las Vegas... waiting to get home to Dallas, and I end up spending 8 hours there with delays. I am tired and grumpy and way too jacked up on White Mocha from the Starbucks kiosk. Then I think of that crazy laugh of yours and that sweet smile and that incredible voice and those well crafted songs and I remember why I love life so much and how blessed I am and what a positive energy force you are. There can only be one Ellis but what a beautiful world it would be if there were little Ellis' and big Ellis' and young Ellis' and old Ellis' everywhere.... no forget that... that could be a little freaky. I will settle for just having the one of you in this world to remind me why I can always smile. Jeeeeez Louis now I will have "How Would it Be" bouncing around in my head for the next 8 hours. Oh well... thanks for being you.
hey, i met you at eddies attic and we spoke afterwards for a little while,
anyway, I hand't seen your site before the show and would have got the acoustic cd then if i had known shows were the only way to get it, but i am dying for a copy now. any other way i can get one??
thank you so much for finding your way to columbia last weekend. your music and conversation were just what i needed. still savoring the sounds and energy.
I read that book. It isn't the typical type of book I would pick up, but I grabbed it anyways. It really is amazing. It's more than the story it is telling, which truly caught me. Enjoy. :)
