Ellissay is a German singer/songwriter living in the media metropolis Cologne and in Scotland's capital Edinburgh. Born in 1981, she started her musical training aged eleven when she was taught how to play the mandolin. She later added the acoustic guitar and various percussion instruments, as well as the Irish tin-whistle and started her first songwriting attempts. During later high-school years she joined various choirs, an orchestra and band projects.
Genres such as Gospel, Rock & Pop, Ska, Electro, Indie, Soul and also Celtic Folk left a print on her unique voice and song writing.
“For years I've been storing my songs in a shoebox on my shelf. One day my colleague Dirk convinced me to go into the studio and record them. I wasn't sure I could do it easily. No one had heard any of the material before. There's a difference in singing your songs to yourself at home or opening yourself up to an audience."
Due to producer Dirk Neuss' ambitious work and the help of colleagues the 28 year–old sound technician Ellissay finally recorded the first track “Feel Free” for a demo EP.
Since its online-release in October 2008 the singer's song "Feel Free" made it onto various webstreaming radio-stations, has been played at major sports events at Sheffield Arena in England and an US radio-station recently added the song to their programme. Also they decided to give an acoustic sitting-room-version of the song "Sineád Gere" a shot on air. With the help of an English DJ touring Asia and Australia the single can also be found on an Australian radio-station in Queensland.
Ellissay is an artist of the new internet-generation. Without a label and no management her songs made it straight from her room onto radio-playlists by using social network sites such as MySpace.
"Feel Free", mastered by two-times Grammy winner Darcy Proper at Galaxy Studios, Belgium is now available for download worldwide on iTunes, Napster, Musicload.de or Amazon USA. An acoustic set of new songs is going to be recorded in June 2009.
