Born in Alexandria (daughter of industrialists Konstantinou Deliou), started to learn "sawing" at age 7 years with Poland-Austrian ..Anton Stein. It took 7 years to learn. She plays the piano from 5 years old and composed (awarded 2 times by Gina Bachaouer). Also studied at the Industrial School of Alexandria. ..She came to Greece in 1956, but worked as a professional musician (playing" saw "and singing in different centers) on 1969, when her father died .Her father didn't let Elli to work as a musician. από τους ελάχιστους σολίστ "μουσικού πριονιού"στον Κόσμο. (Το "μουσικό πριόνι"παίζεται με δοξάρι βιολιού που τρίβεται σε μια μετάλλινη πλάκα ιδιαίτερης αντοχής, κρατημένη ανάμεσα στα γόνατα του εκτελεστή. Κάθε παλμός του μετάλλου, που προκαλείται από την κίνηση των ποδιών, παράγει και μια νότα). Γεννήθηκε στην Αλεξάνδρεια (κόρη του βιομήχανου Κων/νου Δέλιου) και άρχισε να μαθαίνει "πριόνι"σε ηλικία 7 ετών με τον Πολωνοαυστριακό ..Αντον Στάιν. Χρειάστηκε 7 χρόνια για να μάθει. Στο μεταξύ από 5 ετών έπαιζε πιάνο και συνέθετε (βραβεύτηκε 2 φορές από τη Τζίνα Μπαχάουερ). Σπούδασε επίσης στη Βιομηχανική Σχολή της Αλεξάνδρειας. ..Ηρθε στην Ελλάδα το 1956, όμως εργάστηκε επαγγελματικά ως μουσικός (παίζοντας "πριόνι"και τραγουδώντας σε διάφορα Κέντρα) μόνο από το 1969, όταν πέθανε ο πατέρας της που της απαγόρευε την καλλιτεχνική σταδιοδρομία. Το 1985 αγόρασε από τον Οίκο "Γαϊτάνου"το τελευταίο "μουσικό πριόνι"που υπήρχε στην Ελλάδα. Το 1993 έπαιζε ακόμα στο κέντρο "Παραγώνι"του Παγκρατίου. Μέχρι σήμερα ζεί στην Αθήνα και ασχολείται με την μουσική.

Is this page run by Nikos or by Elly herself? Whoever runs it - THANK YOU for putting it on. Elly Deliou is an important link in the history of the musical saw. I wonder if Elly and her teacher realised that in the 1940s in Egypt's neighbor, Israel, there were saw players. they learned to play the saw from British musicians.
