“Heavenly Arms” live from Annedal Church, Gothenburg
El Perro Del Mar tells about "Heavenly Arms":
For some coincidental reason Lou Reed worked as some kind of muse for my new album, and perhaps especially this very song as the overall theme of it.
I knew from the beginning I was going to do an album of love songs but as I was far from in an amorous state of mind at the time I realized, I couldn't write anything that would be pretending I still believed in love. I wanted to though. Desperately. And upon reading the lyrics to "Heavenly Arms" I realized he'd find the way to express this dark and desperate fight for love to survive against all odds. Although time and space had come between it - you keep fighting for it until the end. In some ways "Heavenly Arms" helped me set the tone for the album. Performing it live is always very special. At Way Out West in Gothenburg this summer I had the chance to do it in a grand church with this huge cross hanging over my head. It was a strange and quite eerily beautiful feeling.
El Perro Del Mar was founded in the end of 2003 around the idea and need of making music on terms of one's own. Behind the alter-ego is the sole member Sarah.
El Perro Del Mar started out as an mp3-artist and in spring 2004 the first cdr-ep 'Baby, I've been in a bad place' was released by the Swedish label Hybris. The two cdr-ep:s, 'I've got good news' and 'Holiday Special', were released shortly thereafter. In late 2004 the first official ep 'What's new? El Perro Del Mar!' was released, including the the songs 'I can't talk about it', 'This Loneliness' and 'It's all good'. Also around this time, El Perro Del Mar contributed with the song 'Shake it off' on a joint split single released by friend Jens Lekman.
In May 2005 the previous unofficial and official releases were compiled to form the debut album 'Look! It's El Perro Del Mar!'. Later that year the ep 'God Knows (You Gotta Give to Get)' was released.
During spring 2006 a reworked version of the album was released in the U.K. and Europe by British label Memphis Industries. By the end of 2006 the self-titled album was released in the U.S. as well as in Australia/New Zealand.
In early 2007 El Perro Del Mar found a new home on Licking Fingers, the Swedish label run by the Concretes.
During the spring and summer of 2007 the work on the second album 'From the Valley to the Stars' began. The recordings were done in Sarah's hometown Gothenburg, Sweden.
'From the Valley to the Stars' was released in Scandinavia in early 2008. The album was released in the U.K. and the rest Europe as well as in the U.S. and Australia/New Zealand that same spring and summer.
The brand new album 'Love Is Not Pop' was released in Scandinavia on the 1st of April. The album was produced by El Perro Del Mar together with the excellent Rasmus Hägg from the Gothenburgian duo Studio. The single 'Change Of Heart' is now up for listen.
